Pick him up and move Ishikawa.

I should quote myself in my signature too. -Natto

That would be the smart move

Garko can be the main guy against LHP’s off the bench and can even platoon with Huff if/when Huff struggles against lefties. Unfortunately Bochy burned the bridge with Garko.

I doubt it's only partly because he's 'sucking'.

They just don’t really have room for him.

He’s a fine hitter.

Whoops.. I mean..

I’m sure it’s only partly for ‘sucking’.

Doubt? ftw

He used to be a fine hitter, but those days are getting more and more distant. I’m not sure anyone would have a roster spot for him anymore. How useful is a mediocre right-handed pinch hitter who can’t play the field?

by Evan on May 14, 2010 4:07 AM PDT up reply actions

Well..

He really hasn’t played a whole lot this season, and was getting sparse playing time for the Giants last year.

Even so, his full 2009 season wasn’t horrible.

In all likelihood, he’s about the same hitter but he just hasn’t been given much time to play.

You’re probably right in the fact that he’s not very useful though, considering how many teams don’t have problems finding first basemen that can hit.

by AmorVincitOmnia on May 14, 2010 12:26 PM PDT up reply actions

He’s still a fine hitter, but fine hitters who plays terrible defense at 1B aren’t fine players.

Just More Proof That Signing Huff Was The Right Move As Opposed To Going Thru Arb With Garko

By the way, Scott Barnes is sucking too to the tune of a 7.20 ERA with a 1.733 WHIP in 7 starts and 30 innings.

3.4% LD rate!!!

I think something might be wrong with him. Yeah, 38 PAs, but 3.4% LD is wack!

Yup, I wrote “wack”.

I don’t think those were the only options in the offseason.

I feel prickishly demanding!

I couldn't be prouder of my recent adoptee - Tim Lincecum's dealer. He provides the secret fuel behind both Cy Youngs. Also, he taught Timmy the change-up.

1) Garko is probably the same player but he just hasn’t played much. SSS
2) If the Giants had great foresight, they wouldn’t have even traded a decent prospect for him.

by AmorVincitOmnia on May 14, 2010 12:29 PM PDT up reply actions

Scott Barnes also has 31 strikeouts in 30 innings as a 22 year old in AA.

This was a terrible trade and even you know it.

I was promised lasagna.

I agree. But the 1.7333333333333333333 WHIP makes it slightly easier to take
