Also, I looked up Bowker’s splits from last year. There is a clear decline against left handers, but not so bad that he couldn’t still play against weak left handers, such a brian Burres.

yeah. I was about to post his AAA numbers, but figured as long as minor league splits has the MLEs, it would be better to make my argument with. Admittedly, I was shocked they were so good against LH, since Bochy is treating it as if he can’t hit a lick against them.

I agree, but I don’t blame a team for not signing him. It’s one thing to sign a player coming off of a physical injury, but another to sign a pitcher coming off of a mental condition.

I see he had a good game today, but I watched his first start last week. It would have made me nervous if I were an A’s fan. When the manager came out of the dugout to take him out of the game, he yelled, easily loud enough to be heard on TV and I’m sure well into the crowd (since there were probably like 5000 people at the game), “FUCKING SHIT!!” It was actually a little disturbing, especially knowing about his mental history.

by taliesin on Apr 12, 2010 6:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Hmm. From what I know about clinical depression (which isn’t much), that kind of sounds like the opposite of what I’d be afraid of. I think clinical depression basically causes a complete lack of interest and motivation in everything.

That comment seems more competitive than depression. As an example Timmy was pitching and as it left his hand he knew it wasn’t going where he wanted. He exclaimed “FUCK ME.”
When pitchers curse on the mound it’s more from a competitive point of view.

I’m no doctor but I don’t find it disturbing. I have a few co-workers that are diagnosed clinically depressed and their disposition is completely the opposite of what you’re describing. Again I’m not a doctor.

The premium mp3 players function like flash drives. You just drag and drop onto and OFF OF them. They don’t DRM your shit.

by positiveuphemism on Apr 12, 2010 7:10 PM PDT up reply actions

It’s not about buying from iTunes. It is that unless you hack things, you HAVE to use iTunes to get the music on and off the player. It’s a major failing of ipods that the really good mp3 players do not have.

You have to organize the music in iTunes, anyway. Depending on who rips the mp3s and how they are tagged you can have all sorts of weirdness going on.

The thing about properly tagging mp3s outside of itunes is that they will then be tagged correctly for any mp3 player. No proprietary BS.

by positiveuphemism on Apr 12, 2010 7:16 PM PDT up reply actions

just moved my itunes library to a new firewire drive this weekend. It was a fucking mess.

by Into the Void on Apr 12, 2010 7:17 PM PDT up reply actions

I've never had issues

just keep all of your music in one folder, and make that your itunes folder. Then you just need to move one folder for all your music.

But when you move that itunes folder iTunes gets confused. Even after changing the path in the advanced preferences all of the individual tracks still have the old path.

that’s why it’s not as good for windows. With a mac it automatically knows that you’ve moved it.

It's pretty amazing

that way whenever you add music to your library from anywhere on your drive it automatically goes to your music folder, and is organized based on artist/album. It’s really nice

I don't think the need is that severe

Clements and Spencer are a fine 1/2. Brown is a decent 3. So they need a 4? You don’t need to spend the 13th pick on a 4th CB.

The defense got noticeably worse when Clements went out.

Turns out it’s some other guy. He goes by Rob Thompson, actually, but apparently Suzyn Waldman and the other guy think it’s a good idea to call him Robby. Okay!
