Black Jack is White!!!!!!!!!!
And…
The slippery slope we must watch out for is starting to de-emphasize wins vs “stuff.” Obviously both Cy winners would have benefitted and probably pushed their win totals into the 20’s with more offensively productive teams behind them. But we’d better make sure the Javier Vasquez scenario doesn’t overtake the voters in the future.
I know your argument is right…but still!
My career path, have you seen it?
Apparently the position players don’t get paid when there is a pitcher on the mound.

How come they all have to be Presidents (or Secretaries of Treasury)?
I’d much rather have people like Alice Paul, Martin Luther King, or Mark Twain on a bill, rather than another 20th century president.
I was promised lasagna.
MLK on a bill would be awesome.

Why so serious?

What's interesting about this article is
the author came to a valid and intelligent conclusion (Innings pitched per start is an important stat that is easy to overlook), but he used horseshit logic to get to that conclusion

How do you figure? Innings pitched is always a biggy for CYA voters.

by say hey nation on Mar 3, 2010 10:32 AM PST up reply actions
True, but I still feel as if innings pitched can be overlooked. Carpenter didn’t even reach the 200 innings plateau last year, yet he almost won the Cy Young over Timmy (I realize he missed a few starts, but I still don’t think he should have been that close to winning)
Either way, I just think it’s funny that the author spent a few bullcrap paragraphs talking about how important wins are, and then out of nowhere he concludes that pitchers need to pitch more innings. There was no logical progression to his argument

What is the difference how many strikeouts a guy has if they can’t ultimately win games?

Are you really worried about all these high strikeout, low ERA guys getting too much respect? How many runs you give up shouldn’t matter if you can’t get the W

At the risk of being chasmed…..
A pitchers job is simply to do everything within his power to prevent runs from scoring.
