Unless Colon has huge contract demands he won’t fall that far. He started out slow, but is putting together a very good year and upping his draft stock.

Hector Sanchez: Underrated. Fighting body bias since the 2009 off season. I still love you, son, even if you're fat.

by tedfordfan on Mar 25, 2010 7:53 AM PDT reply actions

If we want Colon

Maybe we should sneak some GI prep in his drink. I sure that would clear any interest in him out.

Remember, he is a Christian Colon. They can be kind of stubborn.

The question is: Could he handle the guilt when it comes back up the middle?

by KrazyKrabMeat on Mar 25, 2010 10:53 AM PDT up reply actions

I’m kind of following the Anthony Ranaudo situation. I’m definitely rooting for his return to good health, but if he has some recurring issues, might that be the ‘Kyle Gibson super value pick’ of 2010?

Too early for sure but Ranaudo’s health could throw a real wild card into the first round.

Colon’s way gone by 24, right? I thought he was going top 10.

by Wonderful Terrific Monds on Mar 25, 2010 8:17 AM PDT reply actions

unless his arm is amputated, he will be long long long gone

hmmm. I’m pretty committed when it comes to the MLB draft.

by Wonderful Terrific Monds on Mar 25, 2010 4:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Colon is having a pretty mediocre season so far. I think there is a slight possibility he could fall, but I still am weary of him mostly (as wil says above) because he is a Boras guy.

Well he was until he exploded last weekend. Really the best chance of him falling is probably due to the fact that scouts don’t view him as a SS. And college players projected as 2B usually aren’t taken at the top of the draft.

BA just called Sale both the best HS bat and the best HS power bat. If that’s the case he’s probably going top 10-15, right?

Yeah, I am definitely intrigued, but don’t think there he’ll be available.

What about Bryce Brentz? I have no idea how he’s fairing in CF. I would imagine it’s an adventure and he’s probably a LF long term. The level of competition may be a concern as well, but it does appear the guy can mash.

With Bocock gone, I miss having a minor-league shortstop whose name sets up a lot of body-part-related humor. Colon would be a nice replacement.

Go with what you know

and what you can’t mess up. Any pitcher I’m pretty much okay with given our great ability to development and teaching the change-up. Skip HS bats, that will only end in tears.

This year's draft

is shaping up to be really strong in pitching, both at the high school and college level and there appears to be plenty of good arms projected to be available at #24. While I’d love to see the Giants get a good CF prospect, I have a strong suspicion Barr and Tidrow will not be able to overcome the temptation to take a pitcher, and given their track record, we should probably trust their judgement. BTW, the Giants were able to get Cain picking #25.

Rick Hague was mentioned as a late first rounder previously, I heard mention that his stock has dropped but I’m not sure to where- I wouldn’t mind getting him.
