OH SNAP!!!!!
Apparently, this bit of self-contradictory non-logic is good enough to make the front page of sfgate.com. Excuse me for a minute: I'll be weeping for the future.

Sometimes I wish I could reach through the internet and punch people in the face.
I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

FWIW Baggs also stated on KNBR today how awesome Ford has looked with the bat. He pointed out how Ford was batting around .200 at last year’s all star break as a switch hitter, the Giants then had him bat RH exclusively, and he ended up finishing the season at .300 overall…and now has just kept on hitting.
YOU EAT YOUR DAMN EGGROLL
I like Ford!
But stupid argument is stupid.

by the way
Ford has a whopping 12 at-bats.
I literally slapped myself in the face when I saw that.

Why are people stupid?
My adopted son is RHP Steve Edlefsen, currently above Gerald Posey on the catching depth chart.
He actually has 14 at bats
8-14 with a fun line of 571/533/714
Yes. 571 avg and 533 obp

Ah, the stats I was looking at were probably a day out of date.
The point remains.

Bright side...
I hope he keeps this up in the minors and Sabean has no choice but to call him to sit on the bench while Rowand plays instead

I don’t like this stat, but it proves my point this time so…
The Giants Way™"If anybody deserves credit for this year’s turnaround it’s these two people, Brian and Bruce," Neukom said. "The encouraging thing is we think we’re back to playing baseball the way it ought to be played."
It’s better than that. It’s I acknowledge that this state is completely worthless, but it still shows something…
Wait, what?

I know the “weeping for the future” part is (partially?) a joke, but…hasn’t it pretty much been established that the average person is getting smarter and smarter (and without a doubt more knowledgeable) each generation? I know the “weeping for the future” part is (partially?) a joke, but you hear people say that a lot, and I’m pretty sure it’s the opposite of the truth.
I was promised lasagna.
I’ll tell you that people are getting to be more ignorant and stupid. I have noticed a lot of people are dealing in absolutes (ZOMG DARKSIDE OF TEH FORCE) and that absolutely pisses me off.

Well, I think it’s more that ignorant and stupid people are more noticeable now, with things like the Internet and reality TV. But I don’t know if there’s actually more of them.
Actually, I’m absolutely positive there aren’t more ignorant people nowadays. Stupid is debatable.
I was promised lasagna.
My feelings is that as more knowledge is available (See ResDog) more people become more arrogant b/c they can find “knowledge” that will prove what they are thinking those making their view points on anything infallible. And that, my good sir, is how I define ignorant.

I assumed you meant the literal definition of “ignorant” – lacking knowledge or information. People today know more than ever, no doubt about it.
I was promised lasagna.
Knowledge & information are available for everyone now. I’m a cynic so I don’t see the average person feeling it necessary to absorb it & understand it. I think it’s necessary for the advancement of society (/blazes up) but I don’t see many new concepts coming up if the majority of people no longer have the desire or need to gain knowledge. It’s up to those select few who have the desire to learn & are intelligent enough to use it to come up with new concepts.
You’re our future cookyman. And you misspelled “cookie”. ;)
The Giants Way™"If anybody deserves credit for this year’s turnaround it’s these two people, Brian and Bruce," Neukom said. "The encouraging thing is we think we’re back to playing baseball the way it ought to be played."
More knowledgeable? Probably. Each generation has the advantage of learning from all generations past including the most recent.
More intelligent? I don’t think so junior. The knowledge gained by the next generation is built on the intelligence of generations past. NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!

ps That’s partially a joke. IIRC, you’re a younger lad and a part of the next generation. You are also quite intelligent from what I have read here & are light years ahead of where I was at your age. Or hell, even at my current age. (Trust me, that’s not anything worth bragging about)

Yeah, I’m aware of IQ scores consistently going up, and I actually get really irritated with people who complain about how People Today are dumb, or ignorant, or lacking in civility, or apathetic, as those these were new things.
“I weep for the future” is just a reference to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, really.

I’ve never seen that.
Actually, aside from Ferris Bueller, the only other movie I can think of that I’ve seen him in was You Can Count On Me. Which is a good one.

You should see Election an You Can Count On Me! They’re both really good.
You Can Count On Me had a really good cast – Laura Linney, Mark Ruffalo, Broderick, and Amy Ryan. Also, Macaulay Culkin’s brother.

This reminds me of a BBC program I heard recently on the “virtual revolution,” the last part of which included some panic on how the Internet is ruining society because it “changes the way our brains work.”
You know what else changed the way our brains worked? Language. The written word. Agriculture. Living in settled cities instead of being nomadic hunter-gatherers. Mass media. Recorded sound. Motion pictures. It’s not a new or unusual thing, and society has survived thus far.

Upon teaching at the school I teach at
I actually have been considering something I never considered before; requiring a license to have children.
It’d be a pretty simple procedure; simply require all males to get snipped and, since it is reversible, require an application process before one can have children.
I don’t think I would ever truly endorse such a plan…I don’t think so, at least.
But, man, seeing the home situations of a lot of our kids…the thought has occurred to me on more than one occasion.

Endorsing this would require a scary amount confidence in the good faith of authorities.
Think how easily this sort of system could be used to, say, maintain a white majority, or an English speaking one.

Like I said, I doubt I would actually endorse such a plan.
But, it’s not so clear cut as you guys are making it. We already take away people’s kids with cause. It’s not like this is sooooooo out there…
The baseball Satanist
I promise that my adopted Giant, one Zach Wheeler, will not shoot anybody.
Well, first of all, there’s a big difference between taking some kids away from their parents, and making some kids will never be born.
But it’s also different because here the burden proof is on the state. Kids are with their parents, and if the state wants to change that, it has some work to do. But when the burden of proof is on the parent it becomes incredibly easy for the state to do whatever it wishes. Systematically taking kids away from their parents for no good reason is much harder to do then simply not giving away licenses.
