Upside: Maybe Molina catching so much now will mean he breaks down sooner. (No injuries just soreness)

Downsides: Now that I thought of that, I remember 2009 Edgar playing while the FO knew he was "injured". So Yeah.

Also
Craig Clark, Rafael Cova, Steve Edlefsen, Eric Hacker, Osiris Matos, Clayton Tanner, Dan Turpen, and Craig Whitaker have been reassigned.

Posey is going to make the big league team and they are going to use him as a utility guy.

I think it’s going to work out like this:

(1) Posey makes team as UTIL guy
(2) Hits well while playing every other position but catcher
(3) Never plays catcher again

Molina is our starting catcher so should be getting the most work in for the start of the season. Also, the innings have been almost evenly split catching wise between Molina, Whiteside, and Posey anyways

OK, Mrs. Mouthpiece

So Posey should be in minor league camp “learning how to catch”.

by Lars The Wanderer on Mar 17, 2010 1:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, fine then, but its not like Posey and Molina are battling for the starting catcher spot. Saying he should be in minor league camp catching is one thing, while saying that he should be catching every day in the big league camp is totally different

YOU EAT YOUR DAMN EGGROLL

by heimy25 on Mar 17, 2010 1:21 PM PDT up reply actions

What he SHOULDN’T be doing is not catching with the big league club. If his true problem is that he is not ready to catch, then he should be catching.

They can’t have it both ways. Face it, they are grooming him to be Mr. Versatility.

No – he should be in AAA catching so he can learn to catch, where he’s most valuable to the team.

Eagerly anticipating adding to my Giants family.

by giantsfansince1981 on Mar 17, 2010 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions

But with our pitching, anything close to a major league offense might be enough to win the division

Posey might be the 2nd best hitter on the team if he makes the big club.

If he caught two games a week and started at other positions 3 days a week, he could help the team WIN NOW!

Proudly adopted Aubrey Huff. You can't beat that!

by Goofus on Mar 17, 2010 2:39 PM PDT up reply actions

That is true, and appealing, but I want this organization to think long-term, which means Posey should catch. In the alternative, they can admit they made a mistake in resigning Molina then it’s a deal.

Really, I’m not that opposed to Posey catching 2-3 games a week while playing another position because I doubt he has that much to learn as a catcher. But I am very worried the Giants will decide he can’t catch unless he does it consistently, so I vote for him starting in AAA as a catcher then replacing Molina after the Giants realize Molina isn’t that good (so, in 2011).

Eagerly anticipating adding to my Giants family.

by giantsfansince1981 on Mar 17, 2010 4:25 PM PDT up reply actions

If the organization wants Gerald Posey to be an everyday ML catcher both Poser and the Giants would be better served with him catching everyday at AAA.

Yes

It gets one of the best offensive players in the system into our lineup on a consistent basis and I have no genuine fear that he wouldn’t be the starting catcher by Opening Day of 2011, if not sooner.

My Bucardo is better than yours.
