The dude covering for Baggs also noted that Geno did not impress Bork with his patience today. Gee what a fucking surprise. I know this has been talked about before, but why can’t Nate get a few reps in CF?
I agree with this. He seems to have the speed and arm for a centerfielder, and his bat is mediocre at best for a corner OF but good for CF. With all the outfielders we’ve got, it doesn’t make sense that Nate couldn’t play center with someone else in right.
Goodbye, Steven Johnson, we hardly knew ye. Seriously, that was short.

It makes me think Bork has encephalitis or something. He actually sounds reasonable-even thoughtful.
He occasionally does that.
Like that one time when he said he didn’t like bunting because the stats say that it’s better not to do it very often.
Makes me think that he actually is a stat kinda guy…
Then I see him benching Lewis and playing Velez and I wake up from my dream.

+1
I could hardly believe this quote on Velez’s three one-pitch outs actually came from him:
“That’s not going to work,” Bochy said. “He didn’t even realize he did it.”
I half expected him to add: “But that still beats Freddy’s unrepentent patience.”

Also...
Is there a quote that says more about the Giants? Making nothing but one pitch outs and not even realizing it: Your San Francisco Giants.

How about Molina’s one-pitch double play? I admittedly didn’t watch much of the game after that, I don’t really have that kind of patience

That's different
Velez doesn’t hit DINGERZ and get RIBEYES
Adopted Giant: Mike Krukow.

Boy are the Giants the perfect team for you.

Well, kind of. He implies that he was impressed with Velez last season, and the articles notes the Velez had a good run toward the end of the year. I think both are crap. Velez was awful last year, not surprising at all given his less than impressive minor league numbers. Bochy noticing the one-pitch outs is good, but the problem (and I see no reason to believe this is different) is that when Velez finds holes on his one-pitch at bats, Bochy will play him even though Velez will be using the same craptastic approach.

This. Bochy is upset that they where 1 pitch OUTS not 1 pitch at bats. If he hit three homeruns on three pitches Bochy wouldn’t say anything and that is sad.

Like Reg-gie!
My Bucardo is better than yours.
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
If Velez was the kind player who could hit three home runs in three at bats on three pitches and not have it be regarded as a fucking miracle, I might not complain either.
Of course, he’s not that kind of player. So I don’t know what my point is….

Well, my thought was more that if Velez were the kind of player who could maximize positive results, I wouldn’t be so worried about pitches taken. I don’t worry when Sandoval gets four total pitches in a game. He’s just that good that he’s probably not hurting the team with his bat regardless.
But Velez is the kind of player who probably is hurting the team with his bat. The least he could do is take a few pitches to do it in.
I know there’s a lot more to it, and discipline is good for all players of all skill levels. But in a very simple sense, I’ll complain more when bad players do undisciplined things than when good players do them.
I don't know about that, to the groin.

Nobody in these parts ever can remember a made-up rainout in spring training. As one Giants exec said, “Only our organization could come up with something like that.”
These pretzels are making me thirsty
I wonder how much money they make in spring training.
They’re selling 12,000 tickets a game; it’s almost like a regular season game at the Coliseum, except there’s no empty seats and the concession are more expensive. Given the obvious overwhelming interest, it’s kind of shocking that so few game are televised.

This is terrible news.
The one thing you can count on from Bochy is that whatever he says, he’ll do the opposite. I think this guarantees Velez will be in the opening day lineup.

And I tweet (more often than I blarg).
At least he's not in the lineup today..
Posey is back in there as is Torres. I know it is wishful thinking, but I don’t think Velez will be on the opening day roster. Bork cares too much about ST stats and his suck
Bad process can lead to good things?

If Velez doesn't make the opening day roster
it just shows how stupid Bochy/Sabean are for being the last people to realize that Velez sucks.
But, I’ll believe in when I see it. While they would never admit to eating crow, this is the same player that they said was going to get the “loin share” of at bats in LF.
Alternately, if Velez does make the opening day roster, it just shows how stupid they aren’t for continuing to not realize thise?
I don't know about that, to the groin.
