stand back, I'm about to employ basic statistics
At catcher, Bengie Molina got the nod over Benito Santiago, despite the latter’s role with teams that reached the postseason. Employing basic statistics, Moorehead demonstrated that Molina (.278, 55 homers, 256 RBIs in 411 games from 2007-09) outperformed Santiago (.273, 33 homers, 175 RBIs in 367 games from 2001-03).

Wow, I never really realized that Durham was with the team for six years.

He was injured for four of those six years…
Hector Sanchez: Underrated. Fighting body bias since the 2009 off season. I still love you, son, even if you're fat.

Matt Downs MLB , Now with More STATZ goodness !Matt Downs Fangraphs The Juan Uribe of 2011 !
That outfield makes me sad
Winn’s lousy final year colors that, but even disregarding that he was a solid, averageish outfielder for the rest of his Giants career. And yet, he and a duct-taped-together Moises Alou were the best choices to fill out the all-decade outfield. That’s just sorry.

I think it’s more sad that a guy who played a season and less than a half is the third baseman. Nothing against Pablo…

I’ll take one+ season of awesome over multiple seasons of meh.

I dunno. Feliz for all his bashing and his “A HIGH FASTBALL I WILL CRUSH!” /swing and miss was a really good Giant and played stellar defense for us for a long time.
Even though Panda is awesome, 1.5 seasons does not a decade make.
Bochy: What’s this fancy stat here?
IT Guy: That’s how often they get on base. I do not know why you keep asking me, I am here to fix your server.

Yeah, I probably would have chosen Feliz. Despite his offense, he was worth 11.7 WAR as a Giant from 02 to 07 (though obviously not all accumulated at third base.) Pablo, of course, in very limited playing time amassed 6.5. Now, there’s no doubt that on a per 162 games basis, or whatever, Pablo was better than Pedro, but I think when we look back and remember our “third baseman of the 00s”, Pedro is probably a better choice.

But what's sad about that?
That means we have two guys you could make a legitimate argument for, which is fine.
But 11.7 WAR over six seasons averages less than 2.0 per season, which is right around Aaron Rowand 2009 territory. That doesn’t seem that good.
Incidentally Pablo’s 1-and-a-bit seasons amount to not that many fewer PAs than Alou had in two “full” seasons: 787 vs 868. Alou’s WAR as a Giant totaled 6.0 . Winn’s WAR over 4.5 seasons was 14.0.

No, but in arbitrary decade cutoffs it is a lot more value than anyone else has accumulated. It didn’t come at a fast rate, but it’s still a lot more.

Sad, Sadder, Saddest
Is it so wrong of me to want to choose Kenny Lofton as our CF of the decade?
My Bucardo is better than yours.
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
Nothing wrong with that, particularly since it mirrors my thinking as well. Getting Lofton made the difference for that team.

Proud adoptive parent of Sergio Romo. Looking forward to adopting Justin Smoak.
RF was kind of a carousel of players from year to year. Jose Cruz Jr., Michael Tucker, Reggie Sanders, Alou, and more.

Dustan Mohr. Never forget Dustan Mohr. Who the fuck holds on to a ball as he breaks his ankle?

I felt so bad for him when he batted like .025
for the first couple of months, so glad when he started hitting and making nice plays in the OF, and then sad again when he did that.
Sort of an allegory for Giants fandom, really.

Felix Rodriguez was good? All I ever remember about him were the multiple blown leads.
Possible uses for your Steven Johnson: 5th starter, long reliever, batboy, go-fer, food taster. Just keep him on the roster!
To be fair, that’s all you’ll ever remember about 90% of relief pitchers.
