Amazin' Avenue talking bout Fred Lewis?

Hey guys just thought you should all see this piece from the Mets blog, check it out.

http://www.amazinavenue.com/2010/3/12/1369110/fred-lewis-this-years-sheffield?ref=yahoo

Star-divide

My question is why are the Giants incapable of making some kind of deal with the Mets? I have been wondering this all offseason, as they clearly have had interest in him. The Giants wouldn't have to ask for much, maybe a low level prospect or something. I would be a bit upset if i saw the Mets or any other team for that matter acquire him for nothing.

why thank you, my friends used to make fun of me (fucking New Jerseyans) for liking him so much when he was first drafted. Needless to say I have been rubbing it in their faces for the last 3-4 years or so.

If you fuck a new jerseyan, you deserve to be made fun of. And boo to the LA TRaiders.

Utter frustration and futility.

Possible uses for your Steven Johnson: 5th starter, long reliever, batboy, go-fer, food taster. Just keep him on the roster!

I like how the article presumes that Omar Minaya is more adept than Brian Sabean and would jump at the opportunity to add a Problem.

Rooting for Jose Casilla to take his K- and GB-inducing skills to the majors and join his brother.

The Kids: Lewis, Posey, Sandoval, Bowker, Schierholtz, Frandsen, Ishikawa, Amezaga... CHONE WAR projection= 12.7

Current Team: Rowand, Sanchez, DeRosa, Sandoval, Huff, Molina, Renteria, Schierholtz... CHONE WAR projection= 12.6

Above Avg Fielder?

Is it possible Sabean is also scouting for the Mets???

He is an above average fielder – above average for LF, one of the worst groups of fielders in all of baseball (2nd worst defensive position)…..

by eldingo on Mar 15, 2010 8:33 AM PDT up reply actions

To be fair, he did drop three fly balls in one year. I’m not saying that it’s nothing that nobody has ever done before, and I’m an ardent Fred supporter, but it’s hard to watch a guy drop three fly balls in one year and maintain any kind of perspective. It would be like having to watch a player swing at three balls that hit him and simultaneously trying to keep yourself from thinking “that guy could probably use some more time in AA.”

If it’s hard to watch, sometimes it almost doesn’t matter what the reality is.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

by howtheyscored on Mar 15, 2010 8:56 AM PDT up reply actions

he also tends to run after fly balls in a manner that suggests this:

by tyrannoman on Mar 15, 2010 9:30 AM PDT up reply actions

I actually haven’t noticed him vulture-circling any fly balls. He can take some less-than-stellar angles on his routes, but I think that rumors of his “wildly erratic paths” are greatly exaggerated.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

He’s no Magellan, that’s for sure.

He’s really more of a Captain Cook when it comes to routes.

I prefer great circle route, actually. I’ve seen him take several odd routes to balls. Often his speed makes up for it but when it doesn’t it looks awful.

They can have Lewis but they also have to take Molina.

they need a starting pitcher too, don't they?

maybe a lefty?

actually

this would be great, since it would guarantee I could see him play live at least once this year, unlike at all the Giants games I’ll be going to (and most of the games I went to last year).

I think Sabean should make it known that Lewis is available (if he hasn’t already) and try to swing a trade. If he can’t get a deal done, keep him. No reason to dump a productive player for nothing (nothing=Velez). Of course, if the Giants’ FO listened to reason, we wouldn’t have to say that.

they clearly have had interest in him.

who has clearly had interest in him? The people at Amazin Avenue, or the people that actually run the Mets?

by FluLikeSymptoms on Mar 14, 2010 10:29 PM PDT reply actions

Well I actually live near NYC and his name has popped up multiple times on radio shows and the like. Lewis was, at one time, on the Mets radar according to some sources (whether they were truthful or not I’m not sure.. Perhaps the old kicking the tires talk we Giants fans are so used to.

The Mets broadcasters tend to talk up Fred.

Especially Hernandez, iirc.

Anyone else ever listen to those guys?? The later the game goes the more drunk Cohen/Darling/Hernandez sound.
