"I definitely could have played better. I wish I had. I wish the team snuck into the playoffs. But other things happened. I found out 100 at-bats definitely isn’t enough time to make the adjustment from one league to the other. I’m glad I’m back in the American League."

I hate the league adjustment crap excuse.
Players move around so much, and with everyone hitting in all the parks for years now with interleague play, that excuse is pretty weak.
“I always killed Johan Santana when I faced him on the Twins, but I didnt adjust in time when coming to the NL and struggled against him on the Mets”
Its funny because fuck the dodgers
Eh? I guess I lean a bit the other way.
I get, and back, how darn annoying it is when empty headed broadcaster types use it as an blanket excuse when they want to sound like they are paying attention to the game when they are really either focused on the nacho plate in front of them or the tank top in stands below. You comment though is making rethink my views on "League adjustment".
I think there is something to be said for the more a hitter faces pitchers the better the hitter’s chances. The less elite the pitcher the more this so, in my mind, as well. I also think there is something to moving to team a considerable distance from the a player was playing on and if a player has made such a dramatic mid season before. If they mean these two factors by "league adjustment" I am fine with that. Unless someone come with a potent counter points to them.
Slightly O.T.: As a slight aside I loved your example on Santana. But to show how twisted I am I immediately thought, " Well the Homer dome is a bit more hitter friendly then Shea." Humor aside I think it is good way illustrate what you are trying to say.
Threat level that the 2010 Pads finish with more wins than the 2010 Giants is currently at - 25%
More fodder for anti-stat Extra Baggs posters to use against anybody who mentions SSS in response to hitting stats.
Rooting for Jose Casilla to take his K- and GB-inducing skills to the majors and join his brother.
The Kids: Lewis, Posey, Sandoval, Bowker, Schierholtz, Frandsen, Ishikawa, Amezaga... CHONE WAR projection= 12.7
Current Team: Rowand, Sanchez, DeRosa, Sandoval, Huff, Molina, Renteria, Schierholtz... CHONE WAR projection= 12.6
I read into the 100 at bats statement more of a dig against the FO in only giving him a short time to prove himself.
Bochy: What’s this fancy stat here?
IT Guy: That’s how often they get on base. I do not know why you keep asking me, I am here to fix your server.

while it IS true, you can’t entirely fault the FO. He was brought in here to jump start the offense and he didn’t do so. The team already had Travis Ishikawa here. If you’re not going to hit better than Travis is hitting, plus you can’t field the position, then the team is better off playing Travis Ishikawa, isn’t it? That being said, Aubrey Huff is not going to field like TI does either, so he better damn well hit. We’ll probably know pretty quickly if the Giants were better off signing Huff or giving a full year to a TI-Garko platoon.

The thing is, 100 ABs tells you practically nothing about what will happen in ABs 101 and on.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.

After seeing him work out with Pablo in those Operation Panda videos and photos, I thought he was cool. The 100 AB remark just made him even more cooler.
Wish him all the best in Seattle.

I don’t think it’s “cool” that he used the small sample size as an excuse for his poor play OR the change in leagues. I would prefer if he just accepted the fact that he played poorly and wished he had gotten another chance this year to convince the Giants he was a good player.

He sucks
but at least we got some good players when we sent him to Seattles

That is sarcasm, right?

yes
but you must admit unloading that burdensome contract to Clevelande when he was acquired was a great move!

It’s possible that a change in leagues makes a difference, but the excuse tends to fall apart with the advent of inter league play. However in Garko’s case, his bat speed left a lot to be desired. I was hoping, like most Giant fans, that he was going to succeed, but I was not impressed with his fluidity on the field
