Lincecum Wants to be a Giant for a long time
This clip on the Giants web site had an interview with our boy, Tim Lincecum himself, and he says he wants to be a Giant for life, and he loves it in San Francisco. Thoughts on this?

He Is Here For Four More Year So what Else Is He going to Say?
True or not he almost has to say this.
No, I really don’t think he does. He probably can’t say, “Yeah, I hate San Francisco, and I want to get out of here as soon as possible” but no one’s making him say he wants to stay here even after his arb years (which is what he said). He could just not comment on it and be evasive when he’s asked direct questions. He’s coming out and saying “It’d be nice to stay a Giant my whole career, that’d be awesome, because I love it here so much” and I think that’s him being honest and it’s a great sign. They didn’t show the question, but even if he was asked something like, “Do you want to stay in SF your whole career?” or “How do you feel about staying with the team once your arb years are up?”, which is about as direct as possible, his answer is a pretty strong commitment.
Generally I think this is something Giants fans should be very happy about; I don’t think he’s being disingenuous, and I don’t think that he’s being vague, I think he said what he feels and this is a case where we can put down the pessimism for a second and just be happy about something.
You Are Most Likely Right But We Really Don't Know For Sure
This is the smart thing for him to say even if it is totally untrue.

Why is that? I think if he says that he wants to stay a Giant, that creates a certain level of expectation among the fanbase and management, and if he then turns out to be uncooperative in attempts to sign an extension, there’s going to be a lot of animosity created by the discrepancy between what he did and what he said. And by making these comments, he has created the impression within the FO that they shouldn’t have to outbid everyone else, or necessarily pay market value, because he wants to play here. I don’t see any way saying he wants to stay a Giant helps his case; I suppose it would make the Giants more interested in retaining him, but the fact that he’s the best pitcher in baseball, he’s the face of the franchise, and he brings untold value in giving the club something to be known for besides that RAT BASTARD CHEATING STEROID USER WHO MADE SPORTS’ MOST SACRED RECORD ENTIRELY EVIL would probably interest the Giants pretty well on their own.
Because 4 Years From Now Is Four Year From Now
There has been zero talk from either side abut a contract beyond the four years remaining of arbitration. The Giants have only talked about two years. Even if he would like to leave (not saying he would at all but he could and we really don’t know) he needs to make the best of the virtually for sure four years he has left here and saying this is the way to go about doing that.
As for your BLB attack – stick it where the sun don’t shine.

I don’t see why saying this helps him; it won’t endear him to the fanbase much more than the pitching already has, and it does create expectations that, if unfulfilled, will create anger. I understand why he would say that if he’s a mediocre player who needs to create fan approval, but Timmy certainly isn’t mediocre, and he’s got plenty of fan approval already. The marginal return of saying that isn’t worth the cost of not fulfilling the promise to stay.
And the BLB thing was very tongue-in-cheek. I love Bonds; always have, always will, and I think he gets a very raw deal compared to a lot of other guys.
Being asked if he likes it here/wants to stay/etc. and refusing to answer, being evasive, or responding with anything less than an enthusiastic “yes” is going to be taken by the media and fanbase as a “no”, and would undoubtedly generate a ton of distracting speculation by both amateur pundits like us and professional writers trying desperately to weather the post-Super Bowl sports vacuum.

He could say he likes it here without committing to staying. Instead of saying what he did, he could say something like “Sure, I like it here, and I’m open to signing a long-term deal; we’ll see what happens” which is the kind of comment we’d all read and totally gloss over because it’s the typical saying-nothing-while-saying-something comment. It doesn’t express anything one way or the other, so he can qualify it later without fear of contradiction depending on what happens. Now, if he signs with the Yankees in 2014, people can ask him, “Tim, you said something four years ago about wanting to stay in SF for your whole career; what happened?” and he’s screwed. And I’m sure he’s been well coached on PR and dealing with the media, and given formulated answers like that to questions about long-term deals. Most players say something like that when they’re asked about staying, and the fact that Tim actually said something with substance makes me think he really does want to stay.
I also want him to be a Giant for life

Be careful what you wish for.
The Giants are still paying Bonds for the next eight years.

Actually Just 2 More Years
All the dollars from the 2007 contract have now been paid and three of the 5 deferred payments from the 2002-2006 contract have been paid leaving two $5M + Interest payments left with one this year and one next year.

Doesn't Start Until He Officially Retires
Thus has not started yet and will run for 10 years when and if it does at $1M each.

I thought his agent announced his retirement in December.
My Bucardo is better than yours.
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
Oddly Enough
I’m actually less bothered by that than the fact we’re paying Bengie Molina to play.
Here's to the Dodgers and their bucket of suck.
Sidebar – could they put Lincecum on the website any more than they do now? If you go through all the news and videos on the Giants’ home page, Timmy shows up like 16 times.
I try not to break the rules, but merely to test their elasticity.
Not by me.
Utter frustration and futility.

Last year the marketing of Lincecum was fairly intense due to his first Cy Young. Now that he has two what would you expect the marketing team to do?

They could change the url to timlincecum.com
Anyone know if it’s available?
Adopted brother of Jason Jarvis. To pass the time during the offseason I decided to try my hand at blogging about photography and music.
no he doesn’t, he hates the Giants because of the way they are negotiating with him and he will never forgive them. He can’t wait to leave and join a team that knows how to properly deal with arbitration cases. He will probably vandalize the clubhouse on his way out of town.
