Just want to add. I am 90% sure I am going to Pit and Was.
Want to go to Toronto (long weekend, see Niagara and Cooperstown on the drive) and NYM (NY stresses the me out).
My career path, have you seen it?
Although I'm a west coast McCC..
While waiting at Fanfest, a discussion arose and now I’m going to Toronto. We are going to the Friday and Saturday games. I’ve never been to Toronto so I’m looking forward to this.

Aren’t the Giant’s Vacations people doing a “tour” for this series?
I’ve heard those are pretty cool, meetings with the players and whatnot…
Yes they are but we aren’t going as part of that group. We booked everything separately from the Giant’s Vacations this past Sunday.

The Giants’ Road Trip package this year is to DC, I think.
I try not to break the rules, but merely to test their elasticity.
We had priced the Chicago package a few years back and found we could do the same hotels and whatnot for less. So I don’t bother looking at the vacation pkgs anymore.

As one of the only other Ohioans, I have to work Clippers games during the Cinci games, so I’d be out. My only hope at live Giants baseball this year is that weekend in Pittsburgh.
I intend to be treated in the manner which I am accustomed.
If it can’t be reached by subway, I shall not endeavor to reach it. Queens, please.

Natinals for sure
I’m a poor college student in DC, with no way to get to the other places.
Plus, Nationals tickets are a lot cheaper than mets or pirates, from what I recall.
"People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
I don’t know about Nationals ticket prices, but we took a last-minute trip to Pittsburgh to see the Giants last summer, and the ticket prices at the window were VERY reasonable.

I usually try to get up to a game during the Philly series every year. As they weren’t on the list I’m assuming they have a mid-week series this year?

Yes, it’s on Tue-Thu. I’m going to that series, then the next one in St Louis.

If you're going to get all neighborhoody...
Spanish Harlem for me.
Anyone know of a pro-Giants bar in the city? Been out here five years, and I still haven’t found one.
Sugar Hill for me, about half a mile from the Polo Grounds. You’d think there’d still be a Giants bar or two up here, but if so I haven’t found it.
There may not be a Giants bar now, but if the three of us are that close together, we could probably take someplace over pretty effectively. Evan, you and I are especially close — I’m right near Amsterdam and 125th.
i'm on 77th and columbus
moved here in november so i haven’t watched any giants games in the neighborhood. i usually go to finnerty’s south of union square for niners games but have checked out blondie’s up here on 79th- any other sports bars i should be aware of?
Dodgers fans eat their young.
I go to Blondie’s a lot because my softball team likes it, but it’s always crawling with blowhard Yankees fans. But then, all New York sports bars are crawling with blowhard Yankees fans.
The Riviera
I used to go the The Riviera to root for my second favorite team…..Whomever is playing the Yankees…I celebrated there the night the Sox took Game 7 in the 2004 ALCS….It was awesome….Like an anti-Yankee oasis in the middle of Yankee nation…..

man, y'all are way uptown
Back when I was in Manhattan, I was way on the other side of the island – first East 21st Street near Gramercy Park, then the Financial District, then Greenwich Village. I never got to know Uptown at all, which is one of my regrets about my time there, along with not spend much time in the outer boroughs.

If you're willing to come out to the OTHER City...
Pacific Standard at 4th Ave. and St. Marks in Brooklyn. It’s not a Giants bar so much as a Bay Area bar (and looks nothing like any bar I’ve ever been to in the Bay Area, but they do ship Its-Its in on dry ice), and while it does tend to get overrun by A’s fans (which are apparently everywhere except Oakland), they’re happy to put the Giants game on, too.
My son is Madison Bumgarner, the Spacebat of pitching prospects. My other son is a Porsche.
Also, there's a Scott Garrelts baseball card embedded in one of the tables.
Fun!
My son is Madison Bumgarner, the Spacebat of pitching prospects. My other son is a Porsche.
I was absentmindedly fishing for this… I read about that place awhile ago but forgot about it. What makes this better is that I was in Flatbush off the Q for a year (just moved back to Manhattan a few months ago). Pacific Standard would have been my default bar if I had remembered it then…
But I’d still be up for checking that place at any time.
Giants games notwithstanding, Pacific Standard is a pretty great bar if you like your beer. They have a bunch Sixpoints, and then everything else is some West Coast micro. (Plus, their trivia night is the only free one I know of in BK) Also, if MCC-NYC want to decide on a date (opening day/night) we might be able to get them to reserve the big projector screen in back for us.
I have the most disastrous luck with girls there, on the other hand. On the other other hand, that’s not particularly unique to Pacific Standard.
My son is Madison Bumgarner, the Spacebat of pitching prospects. My other son is a Porsche.
yeah, I'm in
That’d be a perfect spot for for a meet-up. Let’s make it happen sometime early in the season.
I too think that Pacific Standard is a kick-ass bar, and would be happy to help bring a little orange-and-black to balance the green-and-gold (and, um, navy-and-silver of Seattle ex-pats).

DC. I’m walking distance from Nats Stadium.
And as I’m thinking of making a few roadtrips to Richmond for the Squirrels, I probably won’t be taking in any of the Giants other East Coast series this year.

I’d like to get up there on their opening weekend but we’ll see how it goes. One nice thing about my job is I have an alternate work schedule that gives me Wednesday’s off, so I might try to take advantage of some of those for making Squirrels games, too.

Actually, looking at their schedule I got a happy surprise. They have been realigned to the Southern Division, which means, of interest to me, that instead of being in Bowie for 1 series a year, they’re going to be there every month, with several weekend series, including 4 games on the opening weekend of the season — I am so there! But that’s potentially going to lessen my interest in making many drives down to Richmond (Bowie’s stadium is only about 25 minutes from my front door). But I would like to have a Richmond McCoven get together sometime this season.

I really want to convince myself to make the 16 hour drive to Richmond to see the Airborne Squirrels this summer. Email me if you decide on any firm dates – that might sway my opinion.

Oh yeah, it’s about 2 hours and virtually the entire way is on Interstates. Hop on the Beltway out of Bethesda, take it to 95 and 95 takes you right into Richmond. If I recall there’s even an exit off I95 for the Stadium.

I was there to see 300. Couldn’t show up until the 4th inning because of the weird start time. Only like 2K fans tops, and they all seemed to be Giants fans/rooting for history.
Then I stuck around in the miserable weather until the second game was suspended. Last summer was waaayy too wet.
Kinda like this winter. We get it, snow is white. Stop it.
That second game just sucked! The entire time I was just thinking to myself “why am I staying for this? I should just get up and leave” over and over and over on an endless and futile loop until they finally had mercy and sent us home. Worse yet, I sat around for the entire rain delay the night before which was just brutal, because I was afraid they were going to figure out a way to get that game played.
That said, the first game was a lot of fun once I moved up to the CF bar area. Seemed like most of the crowd was up there by the end of the game and it was really festive. Good thing about Nats crowds are they’re mostly populated by real baseball fans so you can have some great baseball conversations with strangers.
BTW, they’ve revised today’s “wintry mix” storm to another 10-20" monster. WTF!

We’re supposed to get 6-12" down here, looks like DC and Northern VA is going to get hit harder.

Warm enough. It’s been getting down into the high 30s overnight.
We actually had a cold snap in early January where it was in the 20s for a while. It gets colder here than peninsular Florida, but that’s still awfully cold for here.

I drove down to Bethesda not this past weekend but the weekend before, it was a light snow 4 inches or so accumulated total. Every single car that was rear wheel drive was facing the wrong direction on the road. It was humorous to watch them drive in the snow.

I’d like to say that I won’t drink it, but it’s damned good. And it’s cool that Brooklyn still represents like that. I just wish the Giants had the same hagiographers. I hate how they’ve been edited out of the city’s collective memory like they were Trotsky pictures in Stalin’s album. Or Dick Jauron in this year’s Buffalo Bills team photo.

When I was camping on the San Juans (tween Washington and Vancouver Is) I actually got deported because I didn’t have “enough money” to enter Canada. Jerk immigration officials perpetuating some Brazil-esque bureaucratic crap there.
Then again, my only other run in with the law was a ticket I received in Union Square for feeding the pigeons.
I was threatened with arrest once at the state capitol building in Sacramento. The horrid offense? Blowing bubbles on the grounds of the Capitol; which apparently, is a sport.
I guess telling the CHP officer that I’d never actually seen bubble blowing in the Olympics wasn’t exactly the wisest course of action, but seriously. Me personally, I never would have taken 21 five-year olds down to the Capitol. Huzzah for contrived media events that backfire!
That’s funny. When I was in school at Boston we used to do annual pilgrammage up to Winter Festival in Quebec, with a Winnebago loaded up with kegs, drunken college kids and other less legal things and the border guys would pretty much just waive us thru. Granted that was a few decades back.
