OT: Classics Video Games
I originally heard about this on NPR's "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" this morning.
Apparently Electronic Arts is coming out with a video game version of Dante's Inferno.
Nine levels of Hell...nine levels of game play...
Of course the NPR folks couldn't let it go at that and wondered if this would spawn a new trend in video games based on classic literature. There were about 12 suggestions rattled off, and I could only remember a few (I was driving at the time)
Don Quixote Kong
A Thousand Years of Solitaire
War and Peace, but mostly War
I immediately thought of the McCoven and the ginormous list you all'd be able to generate.
I think I thought of "The PacMan Cometh," but it might be an NPR title I forgot I heard.
I'm looking forward to reading all of your ideas.

My friend and I were actually joking about a Grapes of Wrath game last night.
You don’t even have to change the title. Just downplay the grapes and increase the wrath. It’s the perfect game!
Although our joking went like this:
Level One: Escape the Dust Bowl
Level Two: Wrath!
Level Three: Grapes

Heart of Darkness
would make a good game as well.

Would a video game with a serial killer protagonist be a worthwhile experience? You have to do the whole stalking thing, gaining their trust, and then murdering violently. You could even coin your own modus operandi. Maybe it would have to be a Dexter kind of thing, just to keep the critics at bay.
I’m a bad person for even imagining this. Still, in a society where Saw is in its seventeenth iteration…

Doesnt seem to be online anymore, but a few months ago in GameDeveloper mag there was a satire piece with a producer doing an “interview” about how kick ass his companies new game “Madame Bovary” was. Complete with chainsaws, zombies, sex, and suicide pacts. It was pretty damn funny (especially if you are in the industry)
