Bengie Molina was originally a short stop?
I was flying back from Omaha yesterday (boy, are my arms tired!) and I thought I would pick up a magazine to read (as opposed to, you know, actually getting some work done). Of course, given that baseball season is coming up I chose the TSN preview magazine as opposed to the 10,000 NFL draft/fantasy football quides (man, has baseball fallen behind football or what? Good Lord).
Long story short, they mentioned in an article that Molina was actually signed as a short stop. I find this hard to believe, for a myriad of reasons. Number one, the idea of Molina actually trying to show athleticism gives me the giggles, number 2, aren't all of his brothers catchers as well? and last but not least, he is fat and I just always assumed that he has been fat forever.
Can this possibly be true?

Posey was actually drafted out of high school as a pitcher – by the Red Sox in the 50th round.
I think he made the right decision by going to college.

Adopted Giant: the probably soon to be ditched but still awesome Fred Lewis
And, IIRC he was originally a SS at FSU
but at the beginning of his sophomore (or maybe freshman) FSU didn’t have a catcher and they had a SS. Ironically their former SS-Tony Delmonico is now a catcher-in the dodgers system

Just think of the range he'd have
and all that dexterity in avoiding runners while turning a double play

The repetition is awesome. I think I’ll just start copying other people’s posts verbatim.

wow, Benjie’s bio with the Giants mentions Arizona Western too, and the timing is right, he was born in 74 and reached the bigs fulltime in 2000. But I’m sure I heard him say on the radio or someplace that his father taught all the Molina boys to be catchers. Bio on the team site says the dad is in the Puerto Rico Amateur baseball hall of fame as a second baseman.
Maybe Benjie, being a nice polite guy, misunderstood backstop vs shortstop and went out there with his big round glove.

I find this hard to believe, for a myriad of reasons.
Is this the preferred usage, or is it “for myriad reasons”? I used to say “a myriad of”, but I got corrected a few times, and now I always use it as an adjective. Now I see the word “myriad” used as a noun a lot, and think I might have been right all along. Or has the usage changed in the last few years?
Osiris, Lord of the Dead, and relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.
Actually, “myriad reasons”, not “myriad of reasons,” is the corruption; myriad was originally a noun, derived from the Ancient Greek word for 10,000. In modern usage it’s both a noun and a adjective, so you can use whichever construction you prefer.

Johan was an outfielder. Wakefield was some kind of position player. Ankiel was a pitcher. Sometimes these change for certain reasons.
Bengie is the best short stop i've seen
If he sees fast food, rest assured he will make a nice short stop.
