Who would you pick as the best GM in the Bay Area?
I really like that Cohn's argument was filled with lots of logic and reaso.......wait. No it wasn't.

He isn’t even the best baseball GM in the Bay Area. And it’s convenient that he throws out hockey, since Doug Wilson is one of the very best GM’s in all of professional sports.
I don’t know anything about the Warriors or their GM, other than they’re consistently terrible, but if you’re going to talk about Sabean I think you start with that comparison.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
Thanks Cello

Ahem
Only one of the current GMs has won a title for a Bay Area team.

How many years ago did the Raider’s win their third? 15?

It wasn’t 15 years ago. It was 30.

don't worry
It’s almost been destroyed in retaliation.
Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti. "I treat Timmy differently from most pitchers: I leave him alone."
Bengie Molina: "I don't understand why they didn't want to commit to another year, with my numbers and my experience and things like that." Brain Sabean: "He's certainly welcomed back with open arms".
Mychael Urban: Wow. Probably Dye at this point. Good outfielder, could adapt to RF at AT&T, good RBI guy.

Are you seriously arguing for Al Davis?
Or were you talking about the Earthquakes or Sabercats?
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
Just a fact.
The Giants Way™"If anybody deserves credit for this year’s turnaround it’s these two people, Brian and Bruce," Neukom said. "The encouraging thing is we think we’re back to playing baseball the way it ought to be played."
A completely pointless one
WTF does 30 years ago have to do with today?
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
I wasn't talking about today
I was talking about track record. From the link:
I want to remind you that in Sabean’s tenure the Giants went to one World Series and won the NL West three times and were a wild card team. Hardly the record of a man who doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Counting the last 7 miserable seasons, the Raiders have finished at .500 or better in 27 of Al Davis’ 40 years as GM and won three SuperBowls. No current GM in the Bay Area has been more successful. If the Giants 2002 WS appearance is recent enough to point back to and say “Hey, he can’t be all that bad”, then so is the Raiders loss in the SB after the 02 season.
By all means, please fire them both. But if you’re going to point back to past success it’s Al Davis.
The Giants Way™"If anybody deserves credit for this year’s turnaround it’s these two people, Brian and Bruce," Neukom said. "The encouraging thing is we think we’re back to playing baseball the way it ought to be played."
I find it troubling that someone who makes a living as a sportswriter, writing about Bay Area teams, doesn’t have an opinion on the best run sports organization in the Bay Area, and admits so in an article discussing that very topic.

Psh, Pavelski is doing just fine with the undefeated USA. And the Canadian Sharks, despite what any idiot sportswriter says, are the most consistent forces on Team Canada. Hell, Heatley leads all players in points, and Boyle leads all defensemen in points.
I still can’t believe that a journalist was ragging on Joe Thornton for only have one assist in a game.

Fools and Sages
as much as i can’t stand cohn, at least he admits it. he shouldn’t be writing about topics such as best Bay Area professional sports GM if he actually isn’t knowledgeable of all local professional teams, but that’s lowell cohn for you. he’s made a career out of being gleefully ignorant. i wouldn’t be surprised if he still thought sabean was the best local GM even if he did pay attention to hockey. he’s a dolt.
ratto, on the other hand, probably knows just as much about hockey as cohn, but that never stopped him from talking about it.
whoever was the GM of the Sabercats before the Arena Football League went belly up

Top 5 at best
Adopted brother of Jason Jarvis. To pass the time during the offseason I decided to try my hand at blogging about photography and music.
I have always liked Sabean. When he talks in interviews you get to hear his logic and it is senseable.
Be careful saying the Giants have the best pitching staff in the NL. In the beginning of the year, Randy Johnson came up w/ 8 wins. Toward the end of the year in September, Brad Penny came up w/ 4 wins. That is 12 wins that have to be accounted for to start with. Plus the asumption the G men will win more games than last year. Where are these wins going to come from ?
The Kids: Lewis, Posey, Sandoval, Bowker, Schierholtz, Frandsen, Ishikawa, Amezaga
Current Team: Rowand, Sanchez, DeRosa, Sandoval, Huff, Molina, Renteria, Schierholtz
The Kids' CHONE WAR projection= 12.7
Current Team's CHONE WAR projection= 12.6
Duh
Timmy only won 15 games last year, but he’s clearly a 20 game winner type of pitcher.
Cain learned how to win last year, and he will build on that this year, so he’ll go from 14 wins to 17 wins.
Sanchez only won 8 games last year, with the added confidence this year from knowing he can throw a no-hitter he should win at least 12 games.
Zito holds pace at 10 wins.
Already that is 12 more wins, which replaces the RJ/Penny combo. Then, you have Bumgarner who has 27 wins over 270 minor league innings. Adjusting that for the difficulty of the pros and less innings (sorry about the heavy math, try to stay with me) gets you about 12 wins. 100 win season here we come!
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
Unfortunately, they would have to give up 1 run a game because the Giants aren’t scoring 2 runs a game.
"meh"
It’s possible.

I can’t see PECOTA cards anymore, but I bet our hitters have some scary collapse rates.

I figured as much
I only was interested in KG’s minor league stuff, but it’s not worth the subscription for just that. Although, maybe it’ll turn around with some of the new guys there.
Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.
The issues they’ve been dealing with this offseason haven’t given me much confidence….
