It does sadden me a little

Just because he so much was THE FREAK. When my wife and I saw him in San Jose, he was throwing a lot faster than he did last season, and it just made a meal out of those hitters.

So yeah, I miss that.

But 2 Cy Youngs.

Whoops

Saw him in Stockton. Played for San Jose.

I would rather have an ace that could hit 95 sometimes

than a pitcher who could only throw a 99 MPH fastball every time. It obviously hasn’t affected his Ks or ERA, but his BB did go down.

by srpwrd on Feb 22, 2010 10:22 PM PST reply actions

I remember that kid

he’s the one that pitched 5 or 6 innings per game.

I like this one better.

Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti. "I treat Timmy differently from most pitchers: I leave him alone."
Bengie Molina: "I don't understand why they didn't want to commit to another year, with my numbers and my experience and things like that." Brain Sabean: "He's certainly welcomed back with open arms".
Mychael Urban: Wow. Probably Dye at this point. Good outfielder, could adapt to RF at AT&T, good RBI guy.

There is that

"The BB's are out. The BB's are being arseholes to me." - Brian Wilson.

by hairball on Feb 23, 2010 9:02 AM PST up reply actions

This has nothing to do with the health of his arm. He is much more experienced and does not need/want to throw the 4 seamer in the high 90’s. He has become much more of a pitcher than a thrower, and a lot of times that comes with a decrease in velocity. I think that this is the same development Sanchez needs to go through.

by Lincecaindoval on Feb 23, 2010 12:00 AM PST reply actions

Interesting point

Not sure if it’s applicable, but if Sanchez were able to follow a Lincecum control/pitch development path, that would be amazing.

"The BB's are out. The BB's are being arseholes to me." - Brian Wilson.

by hairball on Feb 23, 2010 9:02 AM PST up reply actions

Great Points

This is where people fail to realize Lincecum’s decrease in velocity is more by choice than by losing speed. When needed, he can get it up to 97 to blow it by hitters. When he’s throwing an 85 mph changeup that absolutely baffles hitters, you don’t need to throw 97, because 94 looks like 99 mph. The kid is good, and let’s leave it at that.

by BayLife5518 on Feb 23, 2010 11:06 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah

All you have to do is rewatch his greatest moments. Like that rapeing of the Cardinals last summer, he was down in the lower 90’s and changing up and he was making them look like crap. But he would try to blow them away at critical points and they would usually foul it off. When he slowed down and upped his control he would put them away. He didn’t even give up a free pass in that game. What some fail to realize is that he’s not Nolan Ryan.

I really wonder if anyone’s tried that with Zito. I know it’s not easy to learn, but WTH if you’re going to be a junker go all the way.

The scariest thing about Tim Lincecum? He’s right about the age where Greg Maddux and Pedro Martinez took a step forward and transformed from really good pitchers with awesome tools to otherwordly pitchers who had awesome tools and truly understood the game of pitching.

I try not to break the rules, but merely to test their elasticity.

This is the problem I’ve always had with using / as the “action” tag in running text. In HTML, it’s the close or end tag. So I always read things that start that way as “end (whatever)”.

I mean, I still use it myself as an action tag because it’s easy, but I can never get past the initial hiccup that causes me to think you’re ending your subscription.

I don't know about that, to the groin.
