But if everyone is healthy, Manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged it might be hard for Uribe to equal the 432 plate appearances he had last season.

"I’d like to," Bochy said. "But … performance always dictates playing time, and so will our injury situation. So it’s hard to answer right now."

utter bullshit. :(

Personally,

I hope all our infielders are playing so ridiculously well that Uribe doesn’t get many at-bats. But I’m not counting on it.

lol at performance determining playing time.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

It worked for Velez!

I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

That's true

If you don’t perform in your 17 ABs, you sit the fuck down. But if you perform during Performance Determines Playing Time Week, then you get a starting job.

I usually don't pay much attention to what the FO says to the press, but...

From this article, regarding Juan Uribe’s play time:

“But … performance always dictates playing time, and so will our injury situation. So it’s hard to answer right now.” -Bruce Bochy

From the SFGate article, regarding Edgar Renteria’s starting job:

“Just let him play. It’s easy to judge him on a short-term basis, but when you’ve got a guy as distinguished as Edgar, he deserves to have the starting job.” -Bruce Bochy

That’s it. Right there. He basically just said that if Renteria isn’t injured, he will start over Juan Uribe to start the season, and probably for a while afterwards regardless of actual preformance. The reason?

“I think you look at what Edgar’s accomplished in his career. He’s a winner. He was in the World Series. He got the game-winning hit. I know you don’t live on yesterday’s headlines. But I think Edgar is a leader on the club, in the clubhouse, and he certainly deserves a chance to show what he can do when he’s healthy.” -Bruce Bochy

None of that has to do with his actual performance on the field. If he’s healthy he will play. Even if he is underperforming and we have other options, he will play.
