One thing folks may not realize, by the way
Is that there was a Negro League team in the Bay Area, the Oakland Larks:
They only existed for one year (1946), but one of their players, left-handed pitcher Lionel Wilson, later became the first black Mayor of Oakland.

Adopted Giant: the probably soon to be ditched but still awesome Fred Lewis

Something I hope to do in the future is to look at old local black newspapers and try and do some research/writing about Bay Area black baseball. We’ll see how soon I can get going on that.

Just became aware of the Bay Area negro leagues teams this month at the Pride and Passion display at the SJSU library. Great stuff. There was also the SF Sea Lions.
