WHY IS BENGIE?!

I wish I was smart enough for this job! I’ve been playing with R lately, I want to do Chernoff faces for the Giants.

I actually have most of these qualifications. I don’t have the inclination, however.
I agree with Rotorueter. You should still throw your hat into the ring.

I basically have all the qualifications for the other job posted on Fangraphs, but they’re looking for someone with a Master’s (whereas I only have my Bachelors), so as I say down below, you basically have to be overqualified and underpaid to work in those jobs, and I’m only qualified and underpaid currently….

Candidates must not possess
experience with SF Giants IT
Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti. "I treat Timmy differently from most pitchers: I leave him alone."
Bengie Molina: "I don't understand why they didn't want to commit to another year, with my numbers and my experience and things like that." Brain Sabean: "He's certainly welcomed back with open arms".
Mychael Urban: Wow. Probably Dye at this point. Good outfielder, could adapt to RF at AT&T, good RBI guy.
I thought this would be a good job for Sabean when Neukom finally cans him, but then I saw they wanted someone who can also do statistical analysis. He’ll be perfect for a job where all they want is a knowledge of ribbies.
No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you

There’s another nerd job advertised for them on Fangraphs. Looking at it, I realized why I’m never going to work in baseball. They want a Master’s statistics (or similar) degree or higher, and you know they aren’t going to pay you very much. If I’m that qualified, there’s no way I’d settle for a job in baseball below GM (or that didn’t lead me to the GM position later)…
that's a theme in a lot of baseball FO jobs
There are a couple of good books on that, notably “In the Ballpark”.

Working in an MLB FO making roster decisions and “working in baseball” can often be two different things.
I guess the point I’m making is that working for baseball teams require you be overqualified and underpaid, something I wouldn’t be willing to do if I took the time to get a Masters….

The point I’m trying to make is, that isn’t the end-all be-all of working in baseball. I work for a Triple-A team doing multimedia work 9-5, and then during the games I run the MLB Gameday. I have a Bachelor of Arts from a state school. I get paid (modestly) to work in and watch baseball.
It’s a cool job if you don’t mind the long summer hours (nights and weekends at ballgames), low pay, and the fact that I am not making roster decisions.
blast it
you actual baseball people must stop posting this kind of stuff in fanshot discussions!
Do you actually do your 9-5 at the yard?

Yeah. The schedule basically is:
Weekdays that the team is on the road: 9-5
Weekends that the team is on the road: off
Weekdays that the team is home: 9 until the game ends
Weekends that the team is home: 9 until the game ends
It gets pretty tiring. The nights and weekends would be heaven if we just got more 9-5 type time off, but it’s still a fun experience. We do get to slack off a lot during the offseason, though, and we get paid year-round.
once upon a time
I had to attend some meetings in the Coliseum offices… it was pretty cool to walk around the park when it was empty. I mean, emptier than normal.
I really enjoyed the book I mentioned above, and I always appreciate the zonked out park workers I see on the train after the game.
And I REALLY was amazed at all the work people in Modesto did for their team. We had bought seats for a game and were unable to make it. Our loss. Then, out of the blue a couple of weeks later, some nice gal emailed me saying that I could use the tickets for any other available game. That led to a couple of different phone calls, and eventually a follow-up call by someone else to see if we enjoyed ourselves. It’s not particularly convenient but I’m pretty sure we’ll wander out there again at least once this year.
Anyway, I don’t think any of those folks were overpaid, I can tell you that much.
And, for the record, if you’re involved with the MiLB audio thing, I absolutely love that. It’s pretty addictive, and more than once I turned off the Giants to listen to SJ last year.

I think a lot of database guys don't get paid much
Even a lot of statistical analyst consultants don’t really get paid much (hence they keep their day jobs).

I can’t help giggling at any phrase that uses a noun in the adjective form to modify the word job.
I don't know about that, to the groin.
It doesn’t even have to be cushy.
