Rumor has it that the Mets are shopping Carlos Beltran. According to mlbcontracts.blogspot.com, Beltran is in the final year of his contract with the Mets and is owed a little more than $20.0M for the 2011 Season (2011+ Mets Salary Obligations). From the same source, Rowand's remaining salary obligation is roughly $27.2M (2011+ Giants Salary Obligations). This begs the question, what would it take to lose Rowand and add Beltran? Would we even be interested in this acquisition?
Maybe I'm alone here but I like the idea of removing Rowand's 2012 salary obligation at any reasonable 2011 cost. Furthermore, on the surface I'd prefer a 2011 Giants OF of Ross, Torres, Burrell and Beltran much more so than the same group minus Beltran add Rowand. Granted, we'd have to be ok with the thought of Beltran being a potential $20M disabled list risk... Overall though, I'd do it provided the Mets didn't ask us for any money.
