Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

I was browsing through the BA website and came upon a diary post from ex-Giant, and great writer, Garrett Broshuis. He writes about his reaction to watching the Giants win it all, and reminisces about the guys he played with in the minors who were celebrating the championship. It's a great read, and I'm surprised nobody has posted it yet here on the McCoven.

To whet your appetite:

Emotions built within as the pile of bodies grew larger. Elation. Pride. Extreme joy. A touch of envy. A touch of jealousy. Nostalgia.

With the emotions came memories. Chasing an opossum after a game with Bumgarner (he wanted to catch it and bring it on the bus). Playing cards on long bus trips with Posey. Walking outside a San Bernardino hotel with Schierholtz, and a cop warning us of the area's dangers. ("I wouldn't walk around this area unless you wanna get robbed or shot!")

I believe you mean Garrett Broshuis.

Scott Brosius is, of course, a former member of the enemy and the Empire.

LOL - thanks

Yeah, it would help if I got the name right, but then I’ve always called him Scot Brosius over the past few years. For some reason I can’t keep his name straight – early Alzheimer’s?

Yeah, the title confused me too. Nice story, well written. He may not have made it as a pitcher, but he’s got a long future as a sports writer.

Buster Posey: Let's enjoy him before he goes to the Yankees because he wants to win the World Series. Wait, what???

Garrett Broshuis get a pass on the name dropping. If you or I had been lucky enough to play, we would likely do the same thing. These are great stories, and I would want to share them.

Very good writer and good ( MiLB) Giant.

I'm a Giants Fan, but I'll always be rooting for Matt Downs
Where is Dan Burkhart going to play ?

I saw this a while back...

But I love it. And it kinda makes me want to cry.

The MadBum opossum story is a classic. He must have been a true breath of fresh air when he first showed up in Scottsdale and Augusta. I imagine more stories like this will surface as the MadBum legend grows in the coming years. A close 2nd place will be all the bizarre Brian Wilson stories that are bound to come to light as he becomes a household name across the nation. I hope Broshuis someday explains what playing “College Football” against Matt Cain consisted of.

This

So much this, a couple of friends of mine who I got to play baseball with at various stages of their development have won World Series rings and this so accurately describes the emotions at watching it happen. I can only imagine what it must be like though to have played within an organization with guys, come up with them and watch them win it all. Definitely bittersweet, but kudos to Broshius he seems to be feeling—or at least exuding—a lot more sweet than bitter.

I met a guy who played some minor league ball

in my night school business class in May. He was acquainted with both Timmy and Travis from coming up with them in the Western Washington area, plus a lot of the Mariners’ historically shitty 2010 AAAA roster like Sean White and random Tuiasosopos (I obviously did not share my objective opinion of those guys with him). He said that Tim was the best player he had ever faced, and it was obvious that he was destined for stardom. I guess at the same time, he figured out there was no way he could reach that level. It must’ve been both thrilling and bittersweet to watch the World Series and see guys you grew up with win it all.
