Thank You Renteria, I wish you the best.

The champion San Francisco Giants declined to exercise their $9.5 million option on World Series MVP Edgar Renteria on Thursday, instead paying him a $500,000 buyout.

No real surprise from me.  Just sad that it had to happen so soon after the World Series.

My personal hope: he retires.  A great ending with the WS winning HR to bookmark his career.  In any case, I would like to thank Edgar Renteria for his clutch World Series performance and being on such a lovable 2010 Giants team that finally won it all for San Francisco.

Thank you, Edgar

For always being a classy professional, even when we were all on your case for being injured and sucking.

For being the first one into the scrum when there was that dustup with the Dodgers.

For your excellent defense in the hole during the World Series.

For hitting the most important home run in San Francisco Giants history.

I have nothing but love for Renteria.

Thanks Edgar

Way to make us all eat our words. Two years of injuries, and three weeks of excellence. Nothing but love brother. Forever in Giants lore, Edgar Renteria, was a Good Giant.

I love your last line, but...

Shouldn’t these things always be present tense? Willie Mays IS a great Giant. Rod Beck IS a great Giant, even if he’s gone in the corporeal sense. That’s what the forever part means, IMHO.

Unless he signs with another team

Then he’s not a present tense Giant unless he comes back in some capacity like Clark and Mayes

The thong is, it happened.

Also

he might be back next year. Baggs reported Sabez making noise about him wanting to come back in a reserve role.

I just assumed that
when the Giants declined his option,

it would be unlikely that he would return to the Giants. I suppose it’s possible.

I sincerely apologize

For all of the times I called you “Edgar Diarrhenteria”.

I sit here, humbly eating crow. I couldn’t have been more wrong. And it feels wonderful.

Thanks, Edgar. So, so much.

I wish him the best provided the best does not involve a multi-year contract with the Giants.

Sorry Edgar, that I adopted you in 2009 and gave you up for dead to adopt Buster Posey this year. Can you really blame me though? Thanks for the MVP performance in the Series, and our first world championship. I even hope you come back at minimum wage next year and help the Giants off the bench. And by minimum wage, I don’t mean baseball wise, I mean 7.00 per hour.

Buster Posey: Let's enjoy him before he goes to the Yankees.

He just needed a better adopter, that was all

although Buster isn’t too bad himself.

I feel terrible for even thinking this

but as much as we owe him for the amazingness of his World Series performance, I really don’t want him back, even in a reduced role. Maybe if he could play 2nd and 3rd as well, but I don’t like a bench player being limited to one position, unless they’re a huge defensive upgrade over the starter.

I'm still waiting for John Johnstone to come off the DL.

I take back every bad thing I said about you in the regular season because of your homer in Game Five. You’ll always be one of my favorite Giants for that.

I take back every bad thing I ever said about you, Edgar. I was so wrong. You were there in the biggest way at the biggest possible time, and that’s all that matters. Worth every penny and then some.

I hope they put you on the Walk of Fame — I figure they can make an exemption to the usual rules in this case.

Their's magic in Edgar

I believe it was Marty Lurie on the post-game after the final game who talked about Renteria as a guy who might not contribute a lot during the regular season, but who you knew would do something, something special and important, if you could get him into the post-season.

I say it’s more than that. He’s a king-maker. A ring-bearer.

Consider his 3 World Series:
1997 Marlins – Edgar wins the Marlin’s 1st WS title with a walk-off hit.
2004 Cardinals – Edgar’s series-ending groundout gives Boston the title and ends the curse of the Bambino.
2010 Giants – Series winning HR gives SF Giants first WS title

Coach Edgar

By all accounts, he was one of the most respected clubhouse guys anywhere. The veterans and young guys alike all respected him as a leader and student of the game. His swing coaching of Ross certainly helped the Giants win according to Cody.

Sure sounds like Rent would be a great coach if he’s interested.

The thong is, it happened.

Send him to Colombia Tierra Caliente to sign up everyone he can find. Send Omar to Venezuela, and the Giants will be rolling in shortstops till the end of time.

I could see . . .

I actually see this happening for some reason. In his recent interview ( I translated in a previous post) he seems really passionate about being in touch with baseball one way or another. He’s also very passionate about helping the kids in his country.
