I wonder how much world series merchandise revenue

goes to MLB as opposed to the Giants. Hopefully we get a good share because like 80 percent of san francisco will be wearing giants gear for the next year.

Under the current collective bargaining agreement, the players receive 60% of gate receipts in required games.
I am guessing that the gate receipts are about 15% of the total.

Unreal!

I can’t believe I just got back (well, a bit ago) from the World Series Parade for the San Francisco Giants! See fanshots for a link to my flickr for a few pictures I took.

I gave up thinking about going to class when I called my mother who was at the parade and then headed home to watch the ceremony – she told me, “FORGET CLASS. CHECK HOME NOW AND WATCH THE BOYS!”

Just got back from the parade

I’m a short person, so I wasn’t upset that I couldn’t see the actual procession down Market, and I figured that the media/McCoven would have plenty of photos of the players. I photographed the crowd instead, and to see so many people united to celebrate something so simple but so profound was beautiful. I’ll put pictures up soon.

Shift-A

Just got home. Watched the parade from the corner of Larkin and McAllister. SFPD screwed a bunch of people that had been there since 6am by bringing in a second set of barricades and placing them 10 yards in front of us so our second row standing position became 30th around 10am. But we made it work by turning the original barricade into our own personal stepping stool to get us a little above the crowd.

Personal highlights:
-When the ticker tape started falling (allergy outbreak #1)
-Wilson being three cars ahead of his own cable car by the time he got to us
-Huff and Burrell standing side by side, fists raised in victory. Burrell clutching a Bud Light, Huff, the Rally Thong
-Eli Whiteside calmly standing towards the back of his cable car, watching the crowd, smiling from ear to hear, holding his sleeping son.
-Krukow’s speech about being there with the one that taught you to love this team, I was lucky enough to be standing next to my dad (allergy outbreak #2)

48 years after his heart was broken by a Willie McCovey line out to Bobby Richardson, Charlie Brown finally has his championship.

What a parade! Mrs. Folly and I watched from in front of the BART escalator in front of Ross on Market. Apparently our electromagnetic charge caused the breakdown of Kruk and Kuip's car right in front of us,

and then shortly thereafter another car broke down in the exact spot as the previous one.

SFPD crowd control

totally sucked. Had anything bad actually happened, people would have gotten messed up.

A similar thing happened near me on Market, where a bunch of people were on a MUNI island. A cop would stroll by and tell them to get down, then they would just get back up again. Eventually more people came, and then it was just a big mass of people in the curb lane and as you say they just threw down more barricades. People who came early were mad latecomers got “better seats” and yelled at them, until of course they just climbed over and joined the scrum.

The best was one dude who was the leader of the “out of the street” chanters, and of course he ended up in the very front of the mosh pit, holding up a nice big sign to block the view of everyone behind him. Awesome.

I finished 38th, incidentally the jersey number of Brian Wilson. This is particularly significant because I also came in last place for my team, making me in a sense the team’s closer… And my team won, and it was the last meet of the year… Sort of like a World Series of high school cross country…

Huff fired his agency, SFX, earlier this season. He either is shopping for a new agent or could represent himself in negotiations — which usually points to a quicker resolution.

Huff wagered he’d be back because "you want to defend your title. You want to bring back as many people as you can. With our starting pitching, there’s no reason we won’t be in position to do it again."

He delivered a passionate message to fans on the steps of City Hall, recounting that nine years of his life were spent in fourth place or dead last for hopeless teams in the AL East.

"This organization had the heart to bring me here, and here I am in front of all you beautiful people, and I’ve got a little present for you," he said, producing his lucky red rally thong and holding it over his head like a title belt. "Rally Thong is going to the Hall of Fame. Or maybe we’ll just wear it next spring training. San Francisco, baby!"

So I’ve been lurking this site for a while but signed up during this season . . . here’s my piece

I didn’t have the pleasure of watching historic Giants players like Mays, McCovey, Marichal, or Clark. My Giants fandom dates back to 2002, the year the Giants lost the series to the Angels. I remember playing on the streets of 24th and Mission and watching this man, this Giants fan hanging his head in deception as he witnessed the final out of game 6. I stared from a window observing this mans’ disbelief. At the time (being 12 years old) I could not grasp this mans deception; why this man was so sad.

Years passed and I became more attached to the Giants. I caught glimpses of brilliance by players such as Santiago, Bonds, Winn, Schmidt, Snow, Aurilia, Lowry, and Vizquel. These players made me fall in love with this beautiful game. A game that can break your heart as fast as it can bring join to you. This World Series made me realize how awful it must of been for this man to witness the team he rooted (probably since he was a child) miss those final step towards glory. It made me realize how fortunate I was (and still am) to witness this historical moment.

Although I am a fairly new fan, I am proud to say I am a Giant’s fan. And to those who’ve been following the Giants for a while, you guys have my respect.
