Jason Bartlett/Chone Figgins

First and foremost, congratulations to all!  Couldn't be happier, and I'm sure you're all with me.  Who's going to be at the parade tomorrow?

Doesn't seem like the Giants are going to need to add a lot this offseason to be right back in contention next year.  In the second half of this year the Giants were 51-30, and, over the course of an entire season, I see no reason why this team can't turn around a 100+ win season next year.  More so than power, I feel like the team's achilles heal is still their overall lack of speed.  Would love to see either Jason Bartlett or Chone Figgins in the 2011 opening day roster.

Jason Bartlett

should be had for a B level prospect, and could fill our everyday SS position.  He should be able to add a .330 OBP and 20-30 steals to the offense, and we all saw in Burrell (excuse the playoffs) how a guy can take his game to the next level playing in his hometown.

Chone Figgins

has lost favor in Seattle and has a team unfriendly contract.  But what about an Aaron Rowand + b prospect for Chone Figgins deal?  I don't see both Schieurholtz and Rowand on the roster in 2011, and I think we'd all prefer the former.  If we can do a bad contract for bad contract, we might just find ourselves with a goldmine.  Figgins brings a.340+ OBP and 40+ steals, and could turn money allocated towards a marginal bench player into a contributing starter.  Plus it'll allow us to keep Nate on the roster, which with DeRosa coming back, I don't see possible with Rowand taking up a space.  Figgins could play 3rd (and provide positional flexibility) with Uribe at SS.

I still would like Beltre

"I tell him straight, 'If you're going to lead, you have to be the first to practice. You have to come in, get your work down and be prepared for practice,' " assistant coach Keith Smart said. "He needs to figure out why he is having stomach problems and he's got to watch how LeBron (James), Kobe (Bryant) and D-Wade (Dwyane Wade) work. He needs to mimic that if he wants his teammates to speak volumes about him." -Keith Smart on Motna Ellis

I don’t think they would want to play for a minor league team in Texas.

Figgins would be an interesting acquisition

Figgin’s career numbers would be phenomenal to have around.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bartlett got non-tendered. Rays want to cut back on payroll and they have a cheap replacement in Brignac.

by Hobbes2d on Nov 2, 2010 5:58 PM PDT up reply actions

I’d be pretty surprised. The Rays probably can’t fill all the holes they’ll have after free agency with in house options. They are smart enough to know that with the league wide scarcity of good shortstops Bartlett would bring them a decent player or two in return.

Figgins can't play short

So Bartlett. If Uribe’s coming back, I’d rather have a true SS as well as a guy who can play 2B/3B/SS, instead of a 3B and a 2B/3B/SS, since Sanchez and Sandoval should have 2B and 3B locked down. Bartlett is probably going to be reasonably expensive considering the lack of available shortstops, so neither would be an excellent acquisition, but Figgins’ contract is just bad news.

Where would Figgins play?

I like Bartlett, but it all depends on the money/years and stuff like that.

by 24 Willie Mays Plaza on Nov 2, 2010 3:20 PM PDT reply actions

Chone Figgins could play 3B with Uribe at SS and Burrell in LF, or Figgins could play LF with Sandoval at 3B, and Uribe at SS (depending on if we resign Burrell). DeRosa could see time as a 3B or as a LF depending on Sandoval’s recovery/where both DerRosa and Figgins are better defensively.

by AndrewWK on Nov 3, 2010 8:47 PM PDT up reply actions

I certainly wouldn’t mind a Figgins/Burrell/Sandoval rotation at 3B and LF but since DeRosa is already on the roster and probably slotted to play that exact role I think its kind of a waste of a roster spot and money to carry another utility player who can’t play shortstop. I’d prefer Figgins over DeRosa because of the current lack of speed on the roster but I don’t think Seattle is likely to accept that swap.
