The Dugout: awesome about five years ago, just kind of pointless today. The Zito of internet gags.

I think it would’ve been funnier if the names were better… usually the names are half the fun but these were pretty tame.
Can you please explain it?

Had I known it was a movie reference, I would have asked you directly.
Say, any inside info on who’s writing the American screenplay for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo? Or any other info/rumors you’re hearing there?

Steven Zaillian adapted the book, and David Fincher is directing — they started shooting a couple weeks ago (or so says StudioSystem, the Hollywood insider version of imdb).
I’m not the best source for inside info (I’m lucky if my agent returns my call), but I always know of a couple of awesome scripts that talented people are desperately trying to get made. Right now, the one that interests me most is GRAVITY, a sci-fi script written by acclaimed writer/director Alfonso Cuaron, his brother, and Rodrigo Garcia (another acclaimed writer/director). It’s about a female astronaut who becomes stranded in space outside her ship, and takes place in real time as she tries to get to safety. It also could be groundbreaking — at least one guy who’s read it thinks Cuaron (who’s attached to direct) plans to shoot the entire thing in one continuous shot, in 3-D.
I’m not a huge fan of the 3-D thing, and while the all-in-one-shot thing would be cool, it could also be gimmicky, especially given there’d be so much green screen, they could morph as many shots as they like to make it “one-shot”. But as the guy in the linked post says, it’s Alfonso Cuaron. I loved Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN, and I thought CHILDREN OF MEN was genius, so I’m sure he’ll do it right.
The problem right now is casting. They have Robert Downey jr. for the male lead, but supposedly both Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman passed on playing the lead, and now it’s going out to Sandra Bullock. Sometimes in Hollywood you have to make horrible compromises to get your work made, and that sounds like one right there.

Thanks for the response!
Agreed – Bullock is totally wrong for that part. Julia Stiles? Clare Danes? It would need the next Helen Mirren, whomever that might be.

I liked the scheming Padres
and the name GreatMuppetKuiper. I agree with the ‘meh’ on the rest.
