From the other thread…
We’re specifically trying to find "We’re talkin’ baseball…. Giants by the Bay…" any ideas?
If you can think of any others – besides Centerfield, Smoke on the Water, and Don’t Stop Believin’ that’d be cool too.

You're welcome

Checking out the lyrics, the song could probably use an update. I don’t think today’s fans are fondly reminiscing about the days of Shawon Dunston and Mark Carreon.

This is my thought process every Sunday at church.

Ryan Rohlinger lives in my basement. I let him out to play baseball.

Good a place as any to talk about a dream I had this afternoon.

My college roommate and I went to an interleague game at Turner Field between the Braves and the Rays.

He found our seats, but I kept walking around on the concourse. At one point a foul ball landed right in front of me. It bounced off the concrete floor and into my hand. The crowd around me cheered, and I gave the ball to a little girl that came up the stairs trying to chase the foul ball down.

A few minutes later, Tim Hudson came up to the concourse to commend me. He was just the nicest guy, and we had a very pleasant conversation. He chided me for wearing a Rays T-shirt and cap, and when I looked at my shirt, that’s exactly what I was wearing. But I don’t really care for the Rays, and I certainly don’t own any Rays paraphernalia. But there I was, standing in front of Tim Hudson at Turner Field wearing Rays gear.

Anyway, he was a swell guy (and I’ve always thought he was really handsome), but our conversation was cut short by sycophantic fans that surrounded him, pestering him for autographs and such.

That’s when I woke up. That’s the second baseball-player related dream I’ve had this week. What the hell?

I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing Matt Cain.

by TheLetter2 on Oct 5, 2010 7:46 PM PDT reply actions

Whoa.

My best dream of recent memory was last week.

Long story short, I think I was sad. The place that I was sitting in was bleak. Black room with dim red lights (or the other way around). It didn’t look like a good dream. Then this lady came. I think she gave me a lap dance. I woke up, surprised actually as I was on the floor. I don’t remember how I got there.

Well, I guess I would fall in the “Not Quite White” category. That’s the grey area between White and Black that we talked about in Sociology. My came from Italy, Sicily, and Venezuela (that’s all I know for sure). Though, in actuallity, if you go back enough, we all come from the same African woman – the first human as we know.

Yes, the oldest humans are from Southern Africa.

They migrated up and went different paths. The ones who went to Europe (what is now called Europe) adapted to the new environment and their skin got lighter (I forget why). And some other stuff that I forget. Look it up yourself on a reliable source if you wish. Knowledge is Power.

Yeah, that was the first one a few days ago.

I was at a Giants fantasy camp. For some reason, I was chosen to catch for Tim Lincecum in an exhibition game. I tried to protest, saying I wasn’t at all qualified; but I lost the argument. I put on the gear, crouched behind home and caught for Tim during the game. I guess I did pretty good job. I recall being extremely tense and nervous the whole time, fearing I’d mess something up. But that was pretty much it.

Y’all have probably already seen these quotes. But search found nothing.

So here.

Giants must decide whether to keep Zito, Rowand
By JANIE McCAULEY, AP Baseball Writer
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Aaron Rowand and Barry Zito account for nearly a third of the San Francisco Giants’ payroll this season, making $30.5 million between them.
Now that their team is in the playoffs, it’s unclear what role, if any, either struggling big-money player will have for the Giants in their division series against wild-card Atlanta.

snip

“It is what it is,” said Rowand, who has impressive numbers against two Braves starters. “I’ll deal with it when it comes out.”

snip

“Whatever they think is best, I’m happy to help out starting or in the bullpen,” Bumgarner said.

snip

“The pitching staff alone allows you to be able to have some adjustments made to your roster along the way,” Sabean said. “Depth helps. You can see it, from the rotation, to the bullpen, offensively, defensively.”
Zito failed to reach 10 wins for the first time since his rookie season in 2000. His 4.15 ERA is the fourth-highest of his career. He went 1-8 with a 6.72 ERA over his last 11 outings and 10 starts and only had one victory in his last 15 appearances. The stretch included a career-worst nine-game losing streak from July 21 to Sept. 14.
Zito didn’t want to address speculation about his status for the playoffs.
“I was frustrated with my performance in August, certainly,” he said. “I think, as the last start of the year, it really ended on a sour note personally, but I felt like it was a productive year for me and I felt I gave the team a chance to win more than I did my last few years.”
Zito did beat the Braves 3-2 on Aug. 6 at Turner Field, allowing two runs and four hits in seven innings with 10 strikeouts.
“I know there’s been a lot of talk about Barry,” Bochy said. “He’s had his struggles here lately but that’s going to be a decision we make in the next day or two.”

snip

“We have some time here. Sure, we have some tough decisions, we know it,” Bochy said. “You don’t want to set up your roster too early. … We have a pretty good idea. We’re just waiting before we announce the roster.”
For the reputation Bochy has had in the past for favoring veterans, he took his chances in 2010 with guys like Torres and rookie catcher Buster Posey. The two have been huge.
Making constant lineup adjustments and sitting players like Pablo Sandoval during slumps has taken regular communication.
“Boch has done a great job. It’s never talked about,” Sabean said. “For everything that he supposedly isn’t – we know he’s not outgoing and we know he’s not a fire and brimstone guy – you talk to the players and they have needed him this year maybe more than any other year. Whether it’s telling them when they’re going to play or not going to play or when things change, he’s upfront with them. That’s all they can ask for – consistency and being honest. He’s not in it for himself. He’s not in it to further his career. He just wants to go to the playoffs for the Giants.”

So let me get this straight...

If we win today and the Padres lose, then we win NL West and the Braves take the WC slot. But if the Pads win and we take Door #1, we could get a new car, or a trip to Madagascar. However, on days that fall within the ninth house of Ares, the Twins take the WC and Joba Chamberlain has to eat fifty eggs in an hour to maintain a roster spot. But if Barry Zito doesn’t claim all taxable deductions on line 48B of Form 1040-A (in triplicate), he could suffer severe financial penalties including but not limited to an audit or an oil change, depending on whether his 3,000-mile checkup is indeed due.

But Zito’s car has only gone 2,800 miles, so if he should choose, those financial penalties may be moot.

On the other hand, Aaron Rowand has been surfing at Halfmoon Bay, which is not a violation of his contract, but it is a violation of Zito’s. And while that shouldn’t matter, he was wearing a Zito mask and constantly appearing in the very back corner of pictures, making many believe it really was Zito surfing. Is he in trouble? Oh yes, yes he is.

Nice Mat … they scratched out a triple, single and double after Pablo was robbed of extras off the LF wall.

Without having watched a single at-bat of his, I’ll try to talk him down (I may be COMPLETELY wrong, but this is my attempt to rationalize him). In 2008, Emmanuel Burriss hit mostly in the 8th spot in the lineup. He hit .305 with a .394 OBP. Emmanuel Burriss. So, I’ll just go ahead and assume Ruiz, being a late-in-the-order-hitter, is having the same thing happen to him. Science!
