I did a quick Q&A about the Giants-Braves match-up with Braves blog, Capital Avenue Club. I thought I would (spam) share it.

Not sure why you said Mad Bum’s velocity is 88-92. He’s been 92-94 for about 3 weeks now and even earlier when he was first called up he was still 90-92. The 88-92 was from his september last year and spring training.

His average FB is 90-91. I don’t think saying 88-92 is outlandish.

Also, I hate him.

Well it’s a little misleading when you say it’s 88-92 when he hasn’t hit 88 since last year, and while his average FB might be 90,91, I’d be willing to bet that over the past month his average is higher.

It’s only misleading if you eat paste.

Chris, you have expert insights!! Man, what I wouldn’t give to get me some of those.

You should spam share the cross-chat as well with Peter answering Braves ?s. I thought it was pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing.

My Bucardo is better than yours.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

Thanks, Roger! To think, you got share a beer with my brilliant insights.

I know. And I neglected to take notes or anything!

I think a documentary might make it up to him.

Chris, good job – we expected nothing less. You represented all Giants fans very well.

I find it interesting that there seem to be several parallels between the Braves’ and Giants’ rosters. Hanson similar to Bumgarner. Rowand similar to McLouth.

Thanks, Lyle! Both team’s are really similar in makeup. The Braves have a better offense, both pitching staffs are very close, and the Giants have a better defense.

For some reason I can deal with the notion of getting shut down by Hudson or Hanson, but the thought of Lowe shutting us down just starts me frothing at the mouth with rage. Man I hate that guy.

It’s the whole Dodger-taint thing, isn’t it? I feel the same way.

I’m not sure they have a better offense with Prado out.

by WTF on Oct 6, 2010 8:38 AM PDT up reply actions

Last I checked, the Braves were like +30 runs above average as a team on offense and the Giants were around -15 runs below average. That’s a pretty large gap between both teams.

Of course, losing Prado and not having Chipper will hurt them. Derek Lee has been a nice addition — he’s posted a .374 wOBA since he joined the team.

Let's cut to the chase: ERA+ plus OPS+

ATL: 101 + 110 = 211
SFG: 95 + 121 = 216

I would have let you use my trademarked stat if you had just asked :-)

Of note: That 95 OPS+ put the Giants above the league average of 94!

Proudly adopted Aubrey Huff. You can't beat that!

Atlanta is much better by linear weights for hitting and I’d rather use FIP, xFIP, or tRA over ERA+.
