Remembeing the Giants

I am eighteen years old. That means that it has been over one third of my life since that Giants last made the post season. I do not remember the glory days with Willie Mays, McCovey, Juan Marichel, and other such baseball greats. What I do remember (if vaguely) are the names of the 2002 Giants. These G-men are the oldest players that I can remember watching. Since 2002, I can only remember a handful of names that have come and gone through the Giants team.

But this year is different. This year is special. This is a team made up of has-beens and rookies. Players who are thought to have been done for with their careers, or people had thought they would never have a career (enter Andres Torres.) This team is a puzzle, full of mis-matched pieces that by themselves are nothing special. But putthing them together, we have the best team in the NLWest. Over the next few weeks, we will come to find out if these Giants are even better than that.

No matter the outcome of this postseason, I will remember this team becuase of where it came from and what t has done. This is a team who many projected to finish third in the West. This is a team who had to fight for every run they could get. This is a team who played beautifully coming off of the All-Star break, and terribly in August. After that August, people were saying this team was done, finished, better luck next year. But this team is valiant. I remember they battled back from a 10-1 deficit to push into extra innings (no need to talk about the ending.) What all of this shows me is that this is a team who can do great things. This is a team to be remembered.

I should be around to see plenty of special teams come through San Fransisco. Afterall, I am only eightteen.
