Much Love To Jonathan Sanchez... (unintentional comparison to Zito)

I wouldn’t call him underappreciated, but Jonathan Sanchez is underappreciated.

Star-divide

Yes, I am knee deep in the Kool Aid from today (I mean dude can’t hit, but he waits for today for the greatest triple in the history of the cosmos). I know he can be wild at times and frustrate the hell out of us, but I have a feeling that years from now we will be talking about how lucky we were to witness his great awakening and that we didn’t trade him for Ryan Garko’s grandma because someone said she taught the great slugger everything she knew.  We did need that big bat, after all!

First, the guy always plays hard and is getting better. Sure, what a copout, clichéd thing to say about a player. But, I dunno, is it me or does Barry Zito stop playing and instead start whining and pouting when Boch puts him in time out for having a boo boo (double entendre intended) of a game? If that’s only me then whatev, but I never feel like Barry focuses when things get shitty, and Joe Sa (yeah, hella cheesy nickname but it’s what I call him to anyone who cares to talk about the Giants with me here in Denver, and I can’t call him "dirty" because I care not to think about him in that way) is learning how to adjust mid-game.  When things get "dirty," Joe Sa seems to crawl out of it these days, or at least limit the damage. Again, he’s still wild but I see a HUUUUGE up side, as I am sure many of you do. Think about the progress he’s made THIS year, and yeah the no hitter. And now he’s done what the Billion Dollar Zit couldn’t do: come up big when it matters and clinch the playoffs for his team when both had a shot.

We have a VERY good lefty (don’t think I need to clarify, but I ain’t talking about Zito) to compliment two of the game's best righties, and it SHOULD stay this way for a looong time. Furthermore, Zito should be #5 for the playoffs and beyond, and Joe Sa #3 till proven otherwise.  (Or #2 if you want to mix up left and right and all that).

Finally, Joe Sa will never be as sexy as Buster (whom I have began to call Dream Sauce because I am THAT disturbed) or Timmy or even Cain. Or, hell, even Huff or Bum or any of those guys.  But Joe Sa is MAH boy, and I am hella stoked to have him on the team. Without him we don’t sniff the division title. Even if St. Louis developed as weird a man crush on him as I and offered Pujols at the trade deadline. Have I evidence to support such a claim? Hell no! But this guy, to me, is as important as any member of the 2010 National League West Champion San Francisco Giants baseball club.

Salud y gracias to Jonathan Sanchez!

Oh, and is anyone else as stoked as I am at how much the Giants have embraced Orange as an identity this season? I loved the color in the stands this weekend and throughout the season. I think those Orange jerseys are a bit ugly in a beautiful beautiful way, but I love the orange in the stands! What a fun damned season. Let’s kick arse in the playoffs and keep it going! Go Giants!!!

I loved Sanchez’ comment after the game that he didn’t feel the pressure because he’s already pitched in playoff type games in the World Baseball Classic! That’s pretty ridiculous, but if that’s what keeps him calm, that’s fine with me. Jonathan definitely clinched the game three start with that performance, just like Barry Zito clinched the “never start another game for the Giants” with his final performance.

Buster Posey: Let's enjoy him before he goes to the Yankees.

El Guapo = El Hombre

It’s kind of funny that all the SF Gate-type articles didn’t notice the walks, but he did a great job getting out of jams and not getting too frustrated with calls he disagreed with.

But most of all, he won that damn game with his triple. I know “getting fired up” is not always a good thing in baseball, but I have to believe everyone in the dugout knew: if we can’t get him in now, after likely the only triple (or maybe extra base hit) he will ever get in his career, we might as well quit.

Also, I hope Sanchy bought lottery tickets, because if that wasn’t his lucky day I don’t know when it will come.

With the excpetion of maybe Huff's thong, Sanchez is as much to thank as anyone for the strong finish

Looks at his Sept/Oct numbers!
ERA: 1.01
Starts: 6
Innings: 35.2
Hits: 18
Runs: 6
Earned Runs: 4
WHIP: 1.037
K/9: 10.6
K/BB: 2.21

I knew he fished strong, but didn’t realize just how strong. Damn!

Proudly adopted Aubrey Huff. You can't beat that!

And with the exception of MadBum (who obviously didn't play all year)

He led the starters with ERA!

He’s making strides with his wildness already, and once he tames that I think we have something very special!
