If we lose and the Braves lose, we play the Phillies.
If the Braves win and we lose, we could end up playing the Reds after the one game series.

If we win and Braves lose, we force a one-game playoff between them and the Padres. That’s the best scenario.

This the outcome I would love. GO PHILLIES
Outcome No.2: Giants win, Braves lose.
The Giants are 92-70 and win the NL West. The Braves and Padres are 90-72 and would have a one-game playoff for the wild card Monday at Atlanta. (If the Braves prevail, the Giants get them in the NLDS. If the Padres are the wild card, the Giants would match up against the Cincinnati Reds. In either event, the Giants would have home-field advantage for the NLDS.
I would like a Giants’ win. Anything more than that is icing.

I hope Sanchez doesn’t give up one hit, because then we’re fucked.
Proud father of Barry Zito. As long as he keeps throwing strikes, that is.
It could go something like this.
bloop hit. Then a sac bunt from someone who hasn’t sac bunted in 40 years. Then Dirty walks 3 in a row to score a run

. . .and then they lose to San Diego, there is no one-game playoff, right?

Well the statement that Baggs got it wrong is incorrect
Outcome No.3: Giants lose, Braves lose
The Braves are 90-72 and are eliminated. The Giants and Padres tie atop the NL West at 91-71, and both clinch postseason berths on the same field (!!!). The Padres are awarded the NL West title without a tiebreaker because they captured the season series against the Giants. Thus, the Giants enter as the wild card. (The Giants would begin an NLDS Wednesday against the Phillies while the Padres would get the Reds.)

I’d like to thank the 49ers for making whatever the Giants do today far more bearable

As a writer, Baggs has stated several times he wants good games. I’m sure it’s a lot more enjoyable dealing with funny or polite guys like Huff, Burrell, Posey, etc. And then the guy whose presence in the lineup doesn’t make sense is an asshat when you try and interview or joke with him.

the season is 162 games long. They have played their asses off for 161 games, and if everyone is saying they dont deserve it because of a potential 5 game span, well, thats just short sighted. Sure its frustrating they havent clinched yet, but dont undermine their entire body of work because of a 5 game span
but dont undermine their entire body of work because of a 5 game span
Uh, if they lose all five, their “entire body of work” IS “undermined.” That’s the point.

i was simply talking about
those who didnt want to “back into the playoffs”. Sure, its not the most emphatic way to get there, but if they get there, then its a testament to how great a season they had.
In turn, I think the “don’t back into the playoffs” are responding to people blaming the Phillies for not giving a playoff spot to the Giants by sweeping the Braves. Which is silly.
Of course, as discussed above, I have my own reasons for wanting the Braves to be the Wild Card!

Hey, its not Alex's fault
He’s just playing like he is capable of playing. It is management’s fault that they continue to play him.
LOL
I get the ref, but you just know that Aaron Rodgers would be just as bad if the situations were reversed.

out of curiosity
Has there ever been a scenario before where two tie-breaking playoffs were needed? I don’t think there has been.

In a way, the Braves winning is a good thing for the Giants because it puts more pressure on the Padres. If they lose they’re done. The Giants would still have two more chances.

Giants’ starters have given them early runs, which enables them to relax. If the Giants score early this time, I really think the Padres will fold. The crowd will be screaming and the Padres will really feel it.

Huh?
Its been like that all weekend for the Padres.
Gentleman’s agreement between Manuel and Cox to help the Braves get in. No doubt about that.

Oh come on. Why didn’t the Phillies let the Braves beat them the first two games, then?

This might be the most ridiculous whining in the history of MCC
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

What about the time a few years ago when some fanshot doofus speculated that the Giants deliberately didn’t give Matt Cain run support because he (according to the poster, completely unfounded) beat his girlfriend?
That wasn’t exactly whining, I guess.

Wow. A 59-0 win and a drop in the rankings. That's gotta be a first.
No. 4 Boise State spent the entire first month of the season ranked third, but the Broncos couldn’t hold off the Ducks this week.
Oregon fell behind 21-3 in the first quarter against Stanford on Saturday night at home, but Darron Thomas and LaMichael James brought the Ducks zooming back for a 52-31 victory.
The Ducks lead the nation in scoring (56 points per game) and total offense (569 yards).
Stanford came into the game ranked No. 9, but fell seven spots this week.
Boise State remained unbeaten with a 59-0 victory against winless league rival New Mexico State, but it appears the lack of respect for the Western Athletic Conference is already hurting the Broncos.
I’m not saying I disagree, but, still. Wow.

i disagree. If large conference teams refuse to play them that should count for something. its not their fault no one will schedule them. I mean cmon they beat Oklahoma. give them a chance.

I know we have been over the Guillen thing, but I'm still confused.
Guillen vs. Latos 0-1 with a K.
Ross vs. Latos 3-5 with 2 BB’s, 2 doubles, and 3 RBI.
Does Bochey not look at these things at all?
So, superior defender, great numbers vs. Latos, Guillen = load of shit and Ross isn’t starting? is he hurt and I missed it?
Just can’t figure this one from any angle.
