Improved Radio-TV Sync How-To
Improved instructions for setting up RadioDelay to synchronize your AM or XM radio or MLB Gameday Audio with baseball on the television. Now you can enjoy baseball again with Tim McCarver and Joe Buck muted while you enjoy more intelligent and cogent commentary from Jon Miller, David B. Flemming, and Kruk and Kuip. Life is good.
I clearly have way too much time on my hands, but since the Giants are in the playoffs I feel that it's worth it. I added screen shots of the various settings for those who are not sound engineers.
UPDATE: Mac users can try Garageband to add delay. See:

Mac screen shots have been added Tuesday afternoon.
Thanks to Chris Gonzalez for the Mac notes on Garageband.

This looks like a really great guide for PCs. Any suggestions for Mac users?

I use a Mac but have an old PC that I hooked up just to get rid of Joe Buck

First, thank you so mush for posting this and your last fanshot. This is a major improvement in my life.
However, for whatever reason the audio quality seems take a bit of a hit when it goes through the radio delay program. Has anyone else had this problem and/or found a way to keep the sound quality good?
[My set-up is two laptops in sequence. MLB.tv on the first, sound delay on the second, going out to external speakers.]
I’m using the single PC method with Virtual Audio Cable and the quality is superb. I had to fork out the $30 for VAC after I tested the trial version though … the nag voice every 6 seconds or so became intolerable.
I figured the $30 was worth it since I will be using it for many seasons to come. It’s great for watching Saturday baseball on FOX while listening to local broadcasts on MLB Audio and avoiding the network glamor boys.
I set up my own cheat sheet for this setup to augment boteman’s excellent thesis – I use Vista so this may provide additional help:
Before starting audio source (e.g. MLB Audio):
1. Right click Sound Icon in Notification Area, select Playback Devices and select “Line 1” as DEFAULT.
2. Open RadioDelay, set Input Device to Line 1, and Output Device to Speakers
3. Set Delay timing (try 4.3 for TBS, 10.4 for FOX)
4. Press Play button on RadioDelay panel
5. Start audio source

Great work man. I tried this today because someone sent me a link to your site/post. It worked perfectly. I also did a write up on my blog about it and linked to yours, since you’re obviously a fucking genius. Good to see you put it up here too!
We owe you big!

I just set it up and had the same problem. I think the problem is the connection between the two laptops (I’m using a short male-to-male headphone wire)…which is sad, because I REALLY don’t want to fork over $30 for the virtual program….
Check your connections and settings. Things aint perfect in this world. I have had problems like wiggling the connector will make it hit a sweet spot and start working fine.
Or you might have a mixer setting wrong. Keep checking, it’s worth the effort.

I have
one of these, which sometimes works great, but the Fox broadcast is like 25 seconds behind the radio, so the maximum 8 second delay on the sportsync doesn’t cut. I’ve been VERY disappointed recently.
If you don't like Brandon Medders you're not a true fan.
radiodelay has a 30 sec max delay

For Mac users.

I have my laptop hooked up to my mac mini that has garageband opened. Sound is coming out and it’s definitely delayed, but it’s also coming out really slow. Like in a movie when someone screams “Noooo” and it comes out in slow mo. I’m also getting an echo. Any ideas to what I might be doing wrong?
