So we all know Sabes has an irrational love of old men. Washed-up journeymen, end of the road former all-stars, pitchers with declining velocity and outfielders who could steal 30 bases 10 years ago. Could it be that Sabean will finally get lucky and stumble onto the next great market inefficiency? I think the point of the article is that teams will be able to UNDERpay for those guys, and I don’t know that Sabean has been doing exactly that.
There was actually an article on Hardball times a while back that hinted at the same thing. The thesis there was people whose careers make it past a certain age, hold up quite well for a spurt more.
Wisconsin: Famous for dairy, Ryan Rohlinger and not much else.
Yeah, I remember that article. It stated that it was Sabes own twisted version of Moneyball.
I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.
