A very special announcement from McCovey Chronicles

I don't get it either, but Michael Lewis -- author of Moneyball and The Blind Side -- has agreed to share an exclusive sneak preview of his forthcoming book, Up the Middle, with McCovey Chronicles. He approached me, much to my surprise, and I agreed before he even finished the sentence.

I hate to sound like a blushing fanboy, but, wow. This is unbelievable. The preview is in .pdf format, so my apologies to those of you with slow connections.

I’ve got a set of books I refer to for writing purposes, and luckily I had the foresight to bring the most important one with me, but damn I miss the others and damn I’m not going to buy physical copies again.

So now I am definitely in e-book mode and this looks so much prettier than a Kindle. Ooh landscape mode! facing pages!

I just saw on the MLB Network that Jim Thome signed with the Twins.

Jim Thome always reminds me of how awful the Giants 1B have been. Remember when the Phillies had that dilemma of whether the should play Thome or Howard? That would be nice if it happened here.

My career path, have you seen it?

Well, we did have that dilemma of playing Steve Scarsone or Desi Wilson, so there was that.

Andre Dawson will be inducted to the HOF as an Expo. I’m trying to think – is Gary Carter the only other guy to be inducted as an Expo?

MLB Network is showing Game 6 of the 1986 NLCS

Right now, the Astros are up 3-0 in the 8th. The crowd is getting really amped up. Little do they know that the Mets will score 3 in the 9th, win it in 16 innings, and the Astros won’t win an NL pennant until almost 20 years later. LOL Astros fans.

Also, the Astrodome is hideous

You can see the football yard markers all across the field really clearly. That’s even worse than having a freaking hill in the outfield.

See! See!

rjb360- That really is a bizarre link from Michael Lewis supposed new book ‘Up the Middle’ and makes Amaro & the Phils look really foolish and somewhat dysfunctional.

Crazy stuff:

1. Dave Montogomery had to have a series of closed-door meetings with ownership because the Phils failed to claim Babock off waivers and the Blue Jays did instead?

2. Amaro stated that Babock was “Ozzie Smith with more lateral range.”

BLOG LINKS GIANTS TO BABOCK

Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti. "I treat Timmy differently from most pitchers: I leave him alone."

Bengie Molina: "I don't understand why they didn't want to commit to another year, with my numbers and my experience and things like that." Brain Sabean: "He's certainly welcomed back with open arms".

Mychael Urban: Wow. Probably Dye at this point. Good outfielder, could adapt to RF at AT&T, good RBI guy.
