Meh

He needs to be in the AL from all accounts, so sell him to the Jays.

Not sure what to do about my screen name at this point...

They probably think they can get something (anything) back for him a la Valdez.

Look

It’s too late. You already ate the shrooms. So, you can freak out, or you can just embrace the ride.

Juan Carlos Perez, please start hitting.

He’s being blocked by Huff anyway.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

by howtheyscored on Jan 22, 2010 2:49 PM PST reply actions

He’d be a good right-handed complement to Huff, actually.

by Evan on Jan 22, 2010 2:58 PM PST up reply actions

OK, a vaguely plausible right-handed complement to Huff.

by Evan on Jan 22, 2010 2:58 PM PST up reply actions

I was kidding, actually. Being blocked by Huff is a bad reason to be okay with this move. But in reality, this move doesn’t bother me. I’d rather DFA Guzman than Lewis, and even though losing Guzman doesn’t seem necessary, it still doesn’t feel like much of a loss.

I don't know about that, to the groin.

by howtheyscored on Jan 22, 2010 3:01 PM PST up reply actions

Well we’re at #31 on the community poll and he’s never even been in the running yet, so it’s fair to say the McCoven doesn’t think that highly of him. Which shouldn’t stop a full on freak out, of course.

My Bucardo is better than yours.

A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

by Roger on Jan 23, 2010 9:04 AM PST up reply actions

My fondest memory of Guzman was when we heard so much about how good his bat was and how bad his glove was…

And then he promptly botched a double play in one of his first fielding attempts

He was never going to get a significant amount of PAs on this team.

From everything I’ve heard, it really does sound like he only belongs in the AL. Sucks to lose talent, but I guess he doesn’t have a place on teams that require you to field to hit.

And there was no need to DFA Denker, which led to part of that meltdown.

Denker has gone on to do so many great things too

YOU EAT YOUR DAMN EGGROLL

by heimy25 on Jan 22, 2010 2:58 PM PST up reply actions

They already have Ishikawa and Pill on the 40 man, and with the signing of Huff, there really wasn’t any need for another first baseman on the roster, especially one who is so defensively challenged. So this was not a surprise, and was who I figured would be gone next.

by crazedcrustacean on Jan 22, 2010 2:55 PM PST reply actions

The Giants have now dumped two right handed hitting first basemen this off season. When Huff and Ishi are struggling against lefties and the Giants are looking for a right handed hitting 1B at the deadline, remember this day

No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you

Maybe it would have been Frandsen if not for the Sanchez situation. Still, we have Rohlinger, Downs, DeRosa, Velez, Burriss … how many emergency second basemen does one team need?

This kid could hit, but I guess his prospective role is as a DH, being that he cannot field a lick, kinda like Aubrey freakin Huff. Watch his lead hands go klunk, klang, klunk.

Aubrey Huff says that he’s a good first baseman, but all that moving around affected him. We’ll find out in April.
