LOL
In reality though Buster isn’t ready to catch regularly for us. 1 Year at 4.5 isn’t that bad…

Multiple reports out of the the AFL...
…saying Posey was completely gassed. That’s even after benchwarming for all of September.

Gerald needs more muscles and stamina.
Guess the Giants became aware of the Lincecum arb number and were happy to see it was lower than what they thought it might have been. And then with BMoney still available there was some cash still left in the budget.
Good sign. One year. Less money than originally thought. He will now bat in a lower spot in the batting order.
Gives Posey time to get musclely and stronger.
Maybe that’s due to playing baseball for 10 months.
I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

Not quite sure how being in the majors means you play less baseball.

If he was gassed from the HWL + minors + majors...
…it would make sense that he might end up gassed after the AFL + majors.
But it’s not a particularly important argument. I don’t think the Giants are full of shit about Posey benefitting from more prep time, but sheerly out of interestingness, I’d rather see him on the Giants than Molina.

A hearty thank you to Rich Aurilia for all the good memories, and to the Niners for finally getting the uni's (mostly) right.

As long as he doesn't hit cleanup
then how is this a bad thing. One year, not much money, and Buster gets some much needed time to learn in the minors without putting too much pressure on him. Seriously, would you people rather have Whiteside as the everyday catcher to start the season.

Because Molina is a terrible hitter – who would be outperformed by Posey (probably)

I’m gonna borrow a few lines from posters:

As I said in the other thread
$6M for DeRosa+$6M for Sanchez+$3M for Huff+$4.5M for Molina=$19.5M for Holliday, which leads us to:
Rowand CF
Posey C
Holliday LF
Sandoval 3B
Uribe 2B
Bowker/Schierholtz RF
Ishikawa/Garko 1B
P
which I’m pretty okay with. Any credibility the management had when they said “we don’t have the money to sign a big bat” just went out the window.

LOL
The funnier part is I’m not even sure I hate this move. I feel like me 30 minutes ago would be really pissed off at me now for how not angry I am.
Just when I thought I had Sabean figured out….
LOL
It really is the Bochy-factor that makes me hate this move. Plus that should be the last of the free agent signings. I would have liked a 5th starter instead of an overpaid catcher.
The Giants Way™"If anybody deserves credit for this year’s turnaround it’s these two people, Brian and Bruce," Neukom said. "The encouraging thing is we think we’re back to playing baseball the way it ought to be played."
Well, there are lots of reasons I can find to hate this move, but I tend to try to evaluate each move on the criteria of “would this move have made sense for a correctly run team”. Also, I’m trying to judge it in a vacuum. But yeah, realistically Bochy is going to fuck the lineups/PT up, I’m legitimately worried we’re going to have Buster up as a backup for at least part of the season (completely defeating the main reason I like the move, which is to delay his service time), we should have used all the money we wasted this offseason to make an offer to Holliday, we still need another starting pitcher, if we were seriously considering bringing Bengie back why not offer him arbitration…..but yeah, I like to ignore those points.
So from my viewpoint, I think delaying Posey is the right call, and of the C’s out there, it’s not like Bengie is terrible, and it’s not like we’re really overpaying him, and as bad as he is as a hitter, he’s not that bad for a C, which still provides us use/value at the bottom of our lineup (especially since our next option is Whiteside)…..but again, that’s all assuming a properly run club, a faulty assumption, at best….

if we were seriously considering bringing Bengie back why not offer him arbitration
That one really kinda blows my mind
Thing A
Well, he would have gotten more money had he been offered arb and accepted. Given how early on in the process he would have had to make that decision, though (before he established what the market for his services was), I think it was probably a risk worth taking if we had any thoughts of bringing him back.
by Missing Barry on Jan 19, 2010 6:43 PM PST up reply actions
But I can’t imagine a scenario where he possibly wouldve accepted arbitration….and now that he gets and extra 1.5 mil for games played would he really have earned more that way?
Thing A
Yeah
Players who accept arb typically think they’re going to get a better deal through arbitration than through free agency. Molina was the top catcher on the market last year, and the fact that he held out for a three year deal for so long indicates he thought he was going to get at least two years. I can’t imagine Sabean didn’t consider that, especially since he was the only person who could negotiate with Molina, and I imagine he said he wanted a multi-year deal. Not offering arb to him was ridiculous if we had any notion of bringing him back, which I’m pretty sure we did.
