a not so good take.

I think we need to calm down. He is or probably is the first HS pitcher/prospect to make it to the majors with 1) Hype and 2) advanced data to analyze him.
We can’t say this is more than dead arm or is just dead arm period until we have more consistent data and more of it, from the minor leagues

That's fine and good but
The points that the Driveline Mechanics author makes are quite good, IMHO, not to mention glaringly evident in the GIFs provided. Sure, comparing to Randy Johnson is not fair, but still, you can see why Johnson has lasted so long when you see that easy, flowing motion, and it makes me wince to compare it to the snapping whip that is Madison’s pitching arm.

I’m pretty sure I’m a pitching mechanics agnostic. Does anyone really know what good mechanics look like vs. bad mechanics?
I guess that with some of the bio stuff they can do in labs (measuring stress on the body when pitching, etc.) can be usefull. But, I wonder how much you can honestly draw from watching a grainy .gif of 2-3 seconds of a pitcher throwing a baseball?
I might be simplifying things too much. But I just can’t get into mechanical breakdowns like this.
severely pulls his pitching arm across his body, which strains the pectoralis minor in addition to other anterior shoulder muscles.
These type of things really piss me off, first you haven’t examed him personally, second, your making comments based on one game(the only game he has probably seen bumgarner in)

Exactly...
He has to be examined.
And honestly, if the Giants aren’t catching what this guy deems as “obvious”, then the Giants aren’t doing their job.

My worry
is that the Giants are catching Bumgarner’s possible issues, but since Lincecum came through, they are thinking that they are better off “just letting the big prospect do what he does,” and not trying to correct any bad mechanics that they see. Hopefully they realize that Timmy is/was an extremely unique case.

So what if it’s one game? Pitchers don’t change their mechanics from game to game.
HA HA HA LOOK AT ME I'M ALL HAPPY AND STUFF NO REALLY CAN WE STOP WITH THE COOKYMAN IS SAD JOKES?
:-) :-) :-)
1st game, hyped up, causes him to over pitch

Over pitch by throwing with less velocity?
My Bucardo is better than yours.
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.
do we know what his pitch speed was in his previous start?

the Johnson comp they made was really out of place and really shows the deficiencies in their approach at the moment imo because they’re comparing a 20 yr old kid in his first big league start after whats likely his longest and stressful pitching season to Randy Johnson. Not early raw randy Johnson, but the one in his forties who has spent 20 some odd years refining his approach and his mechanics.
I wanted to adopt, but all the good looking babies were taken
