Renteria, Rowand, Molina, Tulowitzki, Fielder… there are others. And this season wasn’t ruined… we just got the pain at the end of the season rather than at the beginning. The Giants overperformed until they didn’t.
The beginning of the season was pretty painful, actually. They got off to a really rough start.

The six-game losing streak, the pair of four game losing streaks all before June. The Giants lost 6 out of 7 in July! and were STILL IN THIS thing up till this week. Very impressive. I’d say the Giants had their fun, made a little noise, now they can see how far they have to go still.
You can tell the Padres suck because they don’t even have a regular cleanup-hitting catcher!

True enough, but I recently heard an interview with a journalist who wrote a book about umpires – went through umpiring school for it – and he talked about how umpires spend half their time rehearsing their calls and motions so they can look cool and distinctive. Yeah, they need to be seen/heard, but they also absolutely go out of their way to ham it up.

So it looks like Lincecum will pitch Monday against the Rockies, as long as his back continues to make progress. Before there was (in the popular mind) “water boarding,” there was “water torture,” IIRC usually “Chinese water torture,” where the subject is slowly driven mad by having water drip on him, very slowly and at random intervals, for a very long time.
Wikipedia says that it was probably not actually used by the Chinese. It’s also a really, really mild form of torture compared to water boarding.
