Who would you pick to replace Bochy next season?
Who would you pick to replace Bochy next season regardless of practicalities like contract situation, whether he likes to live in the west coast, etc. The list is composed of most of the current MLB managers. I probably have forgotten someone. Please free feel to add them in the conversation. Since I am still under 75 words, I will add that for many of these choices, I don't know enough of them, their clubs' prospect development, and past game day decisions to choose one. I do know I don't want Joe Torre or Dusty.

Steve Decker but I’m not sure his approach with his players will lend itself to managing a major league team.
Adopted father of Brian Bocock, Brad Boyer, Sharlon Schoop, Shane Jordan and Jeremiah Luster,Trey Webb and David Quinowski.
Can you expand? Don’t know much about Decker’s approach.

Not well liked by the players, tends to be an asshole. Can’t argue with his results though.

I was going to say what no Decker?
But that’s just cause he signed a baseball for me as a kid.
Let's bring the...
Kind of a silly poll since most are tied up with current teams. I’d definitely be interested in seeing a poll for coaches that are available, though.

…how would he handle young players/pitchers? Was he a gritty veteran guy or did he field a good mix?

I said Wakamatsu, simply b/c there was no Wotus option. Srsly, Anybody who has been able to study the mistakes of Baker, Alou, and Bochy, should have a pretty good idea of what NOT to do. And he’s due.
And I hadn’t considered Valentine, but he’d be awesome.
Brenly would be another idea…as long as Kruk has no influence on him.

RE: Wotus
Guys been in the Giants system forever and we constantly bash the Giants organization when it comes to developing players, not recognizing value outside of BA, etc. Are we sure Wotus would be much different than the Giants managers of the past?

Then Sabean needs to go first. He won’t hire a Manager that is willing to do/die w/ youngsters.
I would love to see Bochy and Sabean gone, and see what Wotus as MGR and Bobby Evans as GM could accomplish with young talent.

obviously, but that’s because he’s good. if the question was which manager would be most viable choice for the giants next year, that’d be a whole different story. but yeah maddon’ll be there for a while.

If Wotus has actually provided any in-game strategy suggestions that Bochy has utilized, I don’t think he is a good choice. I’d prefer someone brought in from the outside with “new” ideas foreign to the current de facto “Giants Way”.

Giants Brass: We could save a ton of money by hiring a player to be our new manager. Why, we’d save money on payroll, and hotel rooms… and there’d even be an extra seat on the plane! by WhereThere'sAWillieThere'sAMays on Sep 11, 2009 8:33 AM PDT up reply actions
No. Ted Williams actually did a pretty good job for the Senators. For a team that was in flux and wasn’t really good when he took over, they had a winning year his first year. But after that they weren’t really good again. He did however find a way to get his players to be a lot more patient at the plate.
Before Ted Williams came, slugger Frank Howard had never walked more than 60 times in 9 full seasons. In 3 full seasons under Williams, Howard walked 102, 132 and 77 times.
1st baseman Mike Epstein went from 48 walks to 85, and 73 the following year. SS Ed Brinkman went from a career high of 38 walks to totals of 50 and 60 under Williams.
And holy crap we think the Giants have been powerless, Williams’ 1972 Ranger team hit only 56 home runs.
I don't include him for his managerial skill, but for his approach to hitting and ability to teach it.
