In October of ’89, I was 20… i.e. the kid is half my age. When I turned 30 in May of 1999, MadBum was 9 and was likely getting ready to finish 4th grade.
Oh, man. I spoke a 6th grade journalism class last month, and realized with some horror that I am exactly double their age. Nothing emphasizes feeling old like meeting folks younger than you.
oh yeah, I wasn't criticizing, I'd just never heard of such a thing before
anything that brings the words ‘investigate’ and ‘fact check’ to kidz is good in my book

With all this Buster Posey tomfoolery
Here are my new ALL TIME MOST PESSIMISTIC offseason predictions:
1) 2-year contract extension for Molina
2) 3-year extension for Randy Johnson – Sabean says he’ll be used as a LOOOGY
3) Fred Lewis and John Bowker DFAed; starting outfield includes Rowand, Winn, and Garret Anderson (5 year deal).
4) Multi-year extension for Freddy Sanchez, but Velez starts at 2B every day after he gets hurt on April 14th.
5) Giants sign Jack Wilson to a 4-year deal, move Edgar Renteria to third base and Sandoval to first.
6) Ryan Garko is on the bench as a backup outfielder/catcher
7) Buster Posey spends the whole season in Fresno; Madison Bumgarner is sent down and called up five times, and switches between the rotation and bullpen three times.
8) Buster Posey starts the season in Augusta and ends it in Salem-Keizer yet still remains on the 40-man roster for some reason; Joaquin, Frandsen, Rohlinger and Downs are all DFAed.

can someone tell me what the deal is with heirloom tomatoes? I hear them referenced on here quite often
Billy Ripken is not a fuck face
Heirloom tomatoes refer to various types of unusual tomatoes you can usually find in farmers’ markets, gardens, or gourmet stores. They come in many different odd colors and shapes and are generally much, much, much tastier than standard supermarket tomatoes.
Brian Sabean wants to kick tires. I want to kick Brian Sabean.
Adopted Giant: FREDEMPTION Lewis
It’s not just that they are unusual, right? It’s that they are grown from seeds taken from plants that precede the creation of all the fucked up crap that we get from other continents. Or something like that. I think.
Essentially, the seeds are supposed to date back to before the homogenization of the seed stock
for the purposes of easy transport / long shelf life.
they’re more expensive because they’re harder to grow, squishier and also, some people don’t like weird looking stuff.
they can be more tasty, though, not least because they are often fresher (see also, short shelf life)
Hahaha. np
The different varieties actually all have their own names, but are normally grouped together as ‘heirloom’
They look bizarre and taste great

Not to me! For a player today to win both Wimbledon and the French is pretty impressive. I thought he outplayed Federer in the ’07 Wimbledon final, too, even though he wound up losing.
Andy Murray will be better than him by the end of next year. Men’s tennis as a whole is pretty ‘meh’ right now though. Women’s is much more competitive and has a hoard of players who are capable of winning the big tournaments. In Men’s there’s like 4 or 5 guys at best. And even then it’s usually just Federer.
I like Murray. Actually, I’ve only seen him play once, a couple of years ago. I recall his game reminding me of McEnroe’s in terms of making funky shots.
On the women’s side, whatever happened to Marion Bartoli?! I have to admit I don’t get to follow tennis that much, men’s or women’s, and I haven’t heard her name much recently.
He has very silly hair, and is not particularly exciting to watch

I don’t think he was so muched squeezed as much as strikes to a normal sized player are high to Eckstein.

My uncle confused the hell out of me this weekend
He said he really likes the way David Eckstein plays the game. I can see that, considering he’s a little league coach and would like scrappy, fundamentally sound guys. But then an hour or so later when the Dodgers game was on he said he liked the way Manny Ramirez plays the game too.

Hey guys, is there any truth to the rumor that Jon Miller said Bochy told the announcers and some media that Madbum would be around 90-91 with his fastball tonight meaning the BRASZ told MadBum not to throw as hard as he usually does?
