True tales from jcb9-land

A couple of years ago, my wife and I were returning home from a concert in San Francisco. While we were waiting for Muni and I was looking at the schedule, a guy who looked frighteningly like Kevin Federline, only really short and with bad teeth, approached my wife and asked her if she wanted a back massage.

I remember Lincecum’s debut very well. I had just started dating my ex gf and she invited me to her dad’s 50th birthday party dinner. It was the first time I met the gf’s parents, and luckily the game was on a tv in the background at the restaurant where we were. I had to keep sneaking peeks over at the tv to watch the game. Definitely not ideal viewing circumstances, but I caught enough of the game

Pregame bullshit:

Bruce Jenkins re: Buster Posey situation, emphases mine

I’d say Bochy is taking the most sensible route, letting Posey soak in the atmosphere as the appropriate spot assignments arise. Molina isn’t generating much sympathy as he lets his hurt feelings show, but this is a guy the Giants should re-sign for a year or two, if he’s amenable. Unless they score some sort of trade/free agent bonanza over the winter, they’re going to return with another substandard lineup. If Posey is really that good, play him at first, third and/or the outfield next season and let Molina bat sixth. He’s just too valuable to let go.

It's just so rare when you can get something for nothing

And what we can get, just maybe, if we get very very lucky, is TWO draft picks for the dessicated corpse of Bengie Molina. Because he’s a catcher, he’s a Type A FA! What that would require is a) we offer arb, which b) he turns down, so he c) goes FA, and d) someone out there is dumb enough to sign him. What i say is
a) we make a lowball arb offer
b) while making it clear he’d be Posey’s backup, pissing him off so he
c) goes FA, so
d) the Kansas City Royals decide they need a veteran to work with their young pitchers.
50/50 chance? Maybe. Worth trying? Hell, yes.

I find it amazing the way managers sometimes get one part of the game but not another.

Bruce Bochy seems to manage the pitching staff alright but not the offense.
Dusty Baker seems to manage the offense alright but not the pitching, if you remember all of the times when he left a pitcher in too long or pulled him too early.
