Good stuff. Posnanski is a great writer anyway, and he gives a well-reasoned take on the value of stats complementing your own eyes. Of course, being in KC he’s predisposed to love Greinke, but he’s not wrong to rave about the guy, and Greinke deserves the Cy Young.

I thought this said “Polanski on watching baseball” and thought oh lord here we go.

Polanski prefers softball. Of the middle school variety.
Why do San Francisco teams insist on having terrible offenses? Frank Gore and Pablo Sandoval can't do it all.

He reminded me of one of my current pet peeves — HOF voters who dismiss Tim Raines candidacy by saying he wasn’t as good as Rickey Henderson. In what other circumstances is this logic used? Mickey Mantle was a pretty darn good player, but he wasn’t as good a hitter as Babe Ruth, so I’m voting against him. I don’t think Clemens is quite up to Walter Johnson’s standards — he’ll just have to stay on the outside looking in.
My Bucardo is better than yours.
A hot August weekday, before a small crowd, when the only thing at stake is the tissue-thin difference between a thing done well and a thing done ill. Insofar as the clutch hitter is not a sportswriter's myth, it is a vulgarity, like a writer who writes only for money.

Holy crap, that was good writing. It’s not like I just discovered Posnanski, but that was a damn fine article.
I also like that he uses more parenthetical comments than I do because I’m sensitive about that.
