I hate to be a total douche...

but can someone please explain why Randy Winn (age 35, likely in his last 6 games as a Giant and batting : 0.161, 0.184, 0.203 as a RHB) is playing as opposed to say Nate* (age 25, who knows what he might do and batting .385, .411, .654 against LHP).

*If you are not satisfied with Nate, feel free to fill in just about any living breathing human being with the strength to lift a 32 ounce object – even Brian Bocock

Because Bochy expects to be back next year and he apparently also expects Winn and Molina to be back as well. Bochy is butting his bread for next year by sucking up to the vets now.

I promise...

If Randy Winn is anywhere near Scottsdale, AZ in late February 2010, I will cancel my season tickets on the spot.

by capn on Sep 29, 2009 6:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Because, it's the end of the season, and the end of the season is when you give your vets a run out

so they have a chance to say thanks to the fans.

I mean, why would you care about planning for next year now? it’s all about 2009!

This lineup is a big FUCK YOU to all Giants’ fans. Bochy knows the team is out of it, and he knows we want to see the kids play the last week. Sabean has already said he talked to Bochy about playing the kids and yet he isn’t doing it. The only way this makes sense is if Bochy is out after the season. This is the only thing that I’m clinging to when I see this garbage veteran lineup.

While I agree… I wouldn’t put much stock in what Sabean tells the fans he supposedly told Bochy. Sabean hasn’t demonstrated much respect for the intelligence of Giants fans. Myabe he’s right considering how many fans actually still like he and Bochy.

No. Just no.

Having him touted as a clean up hitter is just bizarre (“the only full-time cleanup hitter among S.F. catchers”!). He was batting clean up because of a stoopid manager and lack of an ACTUAL clean up hitter. It’s not because he was good at it.

Plus, I think the best Giants catcher should be less of a whiny bitch.

Nice score bug in the Rockies telecast.

Had MIL & COL team logos in left column, with:

SAN FRANCISCO 5
MILWAUKEE 5

I love production.

big money really wants that contract extension

Our young pitching staff is also watching Bochy

And they are seeing a grizzled vet (which is a euphemism for suck-ass ballplayer) refusing to play ANY of his younger position players – Molina, Garko, Winn and Rowand are all in the line-up and Posey, Bowker, and Nate (I can live without Ishi but just on general principles Garko should never play again) are not. If you’re going to bat Rowand and Winn 7th and 8th is there really any justification for them being in the line-up at all? None. There are 6 games left, play the kids. Bochy must go. Molina must not be given more than a year and the regular job should be Posey’s. Our pitchers are watching a vindictive small man manage them while refusing to play the kids. Bochy is the best reason these pitchers have to not re-sign here. Give me Bobby Valentine. Give me passion. Give me fight and intensity.

You want it, you got it.

You want Bobby #!@*(_&($%^& Valentine? Old son, you got him. Those of us who would prefer an IQ somewhere over the man’s hat size have other preferences.
