Nate to play in Puerto Rico
I'm not saying Bochy is a great talent evaluator, but this sounds good. Although he really shouldn't need to work on being selective. "Getting more at-bats will help him learn the strike zone," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "Nate is strong. He can hit 25 home runs in the big leagues. But he needs to be more selective and disciplined up there. That will keep him from going through these ups and downs."
I wouldn't mind seeing Bowker get additional work over the winter too. If Nate can get back close to hitting .285ish, with his defense and speed, he could be very useful. Also if he can reach his 25 HR potential like his minor league numbers. Bowker too.

Oh, Bork...
He can hit 25 home runs. Therefor, I am going to bench him. The entire year.

He needs more at-bats!
…before he can get some at-bats.

So does this mean Bork , if here next season, will try hitting Nate #3 or #5 and rework is swing tell he is in a 3-5 week funk only to bench him the rest of the season? AKA The Lewis treatment.
That’s it! Katie bar the door for this 79 win team is star crossed! And I am loving it.

no
We can’t have 25 homerun hitters making our 3 homerun hitters feel bad about themselves. The Giants are a team of dignity.

Man, that would be 28 players who could hit home runs!
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

Actually have to agree with this. He can hit a lot of home runs in this league, but he won’t do it hitting with his current approach. He seems to be defensive early and inevitably ends up in a 1-2 count. The real question if it’s more at bats that he needs, or if he’s just a number two hitter.

25 home runs in the majors would be a pretty good trick for Schierholtz considering he never topped 20 home runs in the minors in a single season.

He hit 18 in 377 ABs in Fresno in 2008, so 25 over the course of a full season can’t be out of the question.

True, but it’s not like his HR numbers violently ballooned once he hit Fresno.

Go Nate!
I believe in you.
We need to fix the ‘swinging at balls that actually hit him’ thing, though.

Didn’t Bochy say Fred Lewis could hit a ton of HRs?

Yes, he said he needed to be more aggressive. That “getting on base”-thing was holding him back.

Platoon problems?
Maybe he can hit lefties, but he can’t hit them hard. He knows he can get badly fooled facing lefites so goes into “protect”-mode too early.
Nate’s overall success being derailed by minbor successes. Gets Pinch hit. Designated Pinch Hitter. Gets hits off lefty. Designated lefty “killer”.
But yeah, needs to be patient, get walks, wait for pitch to drive, etc etc.

IMO, Nate only seems to have a protect mode swing. In any case, I hope his time in PR will do him good.

Yeah Nate
Go rework your approach, dominate AAA, lead the entire minors in OBP, post an OPS over 1.000 and then ride the pine because we called up someone else and they got hot for less than 100 at bats.
