You can honestly say to me he had no shot at that ball?

by DFAAurillia on Sep 27, 2009 3:49 PM PDT up reply actions

I had to change channels to watch the Post Game Show so I can’t go back and rewatch it, but if he’d somehow managed to catch that ball, it would have been one of the most spectacular catches ever. I wouldn’t fault someone for not making that play.

You’re absolutely insane. That was pretty much an impossible play. Sometimes guys hit balls that can’t be caught. It happens.

Well, we all figured the season was over before then, but I think that loss finally cemented the notion in the team’s/organization’s mind. They’ve certainly played like the season’s over since that night.

by Every6thDay on Sep 27, 2009 3:43 PM PDT up reply actions

that’s a fair point, but that’s only because they were in denial. In that case, Wilson did us a favor because it finally got Posey in the lineup.

by Merope on Sep 27, 2009 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions

True, but then again having Posey in the lineup may have solidified in the team’s mind that Bustery Posey is not a major league baseball player and might never play him again.

by Every6thDay on Sep 27, 2009 3:47 PM PDT up reply actions

the Giants’ have too much invested in Buster Posey to give up on him after two bad offensive games. The only thing he can do between now and the end of the season is convince them he may need more seasoning. Even then he can change their mind by tearing things up in the Arizona Fall League.

No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you

I don’t know much about the prospects. Gutierrez is a good young player, but I don’t think that’s enough return for Wilson. You also have to remember that Omar Minaya was involved with that. He’s pretty bad.

Good point on Minaya.
I kind of thinking Wilson being cost controlled for a bit opens more doors then the returning from Injury Putz. Still a very valid point of Minaya.

I think every team has a bunch of young arms in the minors who throw hard who they can project as future closers. They usually don’t pan out, but it’s the reason teams don’t trade much to get them. I think the best time to trade your closer is at the trade deadline, if you can find some contender who’s really having trouble in the late innings. The Phillies with Lidge would be an example. In the offseason, the Phillies would probably expect him to bounce back.

No Edgar, it's not your fault, it's the fault of the idiot that plays you

Oh agree with that as well. i would be down right shocked if a good deal popped up from some then outside of ath AL East in the winter. No other division is close enough to merit the risk.
