Plus, when Bradley gets hurt/suspended we get to start the outfielders that should be out there everyday anyway. win/win/noWinn?
I wanted to adopt, but all the good looking babies were taken

I strangely find myself saying yes. This is not because it think it actually the logical choice, but because it is a repudiation of a current philosophical thread.

Hell no.
I didn’t want him before he was a fan-hating suspension-gaining injury-laden overrated freak. I especially don’t want him now.

When someone else did a fanshot about this 4 days ago...
My initial reaction back then was pretty much “OH HELL NO!!!” but I have since changed my mind. Here are my thoughts that I put in the Aaron Rowand fanpost yesterday…
It sounds better and better the more I think about it. I can’t help wonder what the giants could afford to offer holliday right now. Then I can’t help but daydream what that number would be if you added $15 million to that offer because you subtracted that from the books by swapping rowand and bradley. With those two as corner outfielders, I would think Torres and someone else cheap would make a good enough platoon that the offense would be hugely improved
Ya, really. It went from a horrible idea to being pretty good to me. I don’t want Jason Bay because Holliday is worth the difference in salary in defense alone. So lets say the Giants offer Holliday 5/80 million, but miss out because someone else offers him 5/95. That would drive me nuts that the 15 mil is going to rowand instead. I don’t like milton, but I like milton and $15 mil much better than rowand. The real question is, what teams can Rowand exclude in his “limited no trade clause?” I have no doubt that Bradley would come to SF, but would Rowand go to the Cubbies?

Same here. Combined with something like a Brian Wilson+ for BJ Upton swap it makes the outfield look like it has the potential to be pretty decent.

Bradley’s got pretty decent career numbers in CF. That said, I’m not sure he’d be healthy enough to play it on an everyday basis. It is a question you have to ask – I could live with Torres as a stopgap for something bigger and better if need be.

Here's someone who no one seems to be talking about...
What about Marlon Byrd, if he comes cheaply? He’s put up wOBAs of .355, .370, .344 the last few years and WAR of 2.5, 3.5 and 2.3. He looks to be about an average defensive CF.

Probably because of his road splits. His bat is pretty mediocre away from Arlington. He’s probably roughly equivalent to Aaron Rowand, just cheaper
by NeifiChicken on Sep 27, 2009 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, I’m not a believer in the “A player who plays in a hitter’s park’s real talent level is his road numbers” argument. His park-adjusted numbers are above-average and the park factor for Arlington doesn’t favor hitters as much as its reputation anyway.

One of my pet peeves is when people use road numbers to explain how a batter will perform in a neutral environment. It doesn’t work. Small sample size.

If we had a GM that would not sign him to a 3-4 year deal at $18-23 MM I would be A LOT more interested.
Basically Sabean’s two mid season trades – and the complete lack of use of them once they were very over paid for – as forced me to conclude that will NEVER be able adequately trade surplus team controlled help for another teams surplus help and he still is way too in love with past laurels to trust with handing out contracts to veterans.
That’s it! Katie bar the door for this 79 win team is star crossed! And I am loving it.

me too
I said fuck no before, but now that I think about it, they would be taking 36 mil off our hands. Given that it’s being wasted on a thoroughly mediocre player, that’s good money saved. And Bradley has the potential to be one of the best hitters in the league. If not, oh well he’s cheaper than Rowand.

No, thanks.
Velez for Milton and money? Sure i could be down for that.
Renteria for Milton & money? Sure i am fine with that as well.
Rowand is way, way over paying for the Game Man. And tha is with out figureing what Sabean would sign as a Center Fielder to replace Rowand and your kidding yourself if you think Sabean would go inot a season witha veteran , gamer center fielder witha ront of a roation like Cain & Tim.

I’d do it. I might cut Milton Bradley immediately, but I’d still do it. I don’t like Rowand if you couldn’t tell. Plus it allows me to indulge in fantasies involving my overinflated opinion of Mike McBryde.

McBryde might deliever. We just don’t know yet.
I would have no problems playing Rowand in CF and hopeing he is not in full suck mode come June & July so as to trade him. That gives us 3 months to see what Copeland ( if he is still here) and MyBryde are doing and if we send money the team should get some decent help back. For all his failing Rowand is better than league average defence in Center and that is worth something.

No Way
At least the devils we know (Rowand, Renteria, et al) aren’t head cases who wore out their welcome with 7 teams in 10 years. It’s time we stop spending money on these types of players and either 1) spend whatever it takes to get someone like Halliday or 2) give the money to Tim and other proven performers and plow the difference into the farm system. Speaking of which, I’m with the “Sabean’s gotta go” camp, but unless someone significantly better than Boch is available, I think he did a credible job with the players he was given by managment.

-benching Posey/making Whiteside starting catcher when Molina got hurt
-benching Garko
-benching Schierholtz in favor of Winn all season
-benching Lewis
-benching Bowker
-not benching Renteria, even when he was injured
-not benching Winn
-not benching Velez in favor of Bowker, Schierholtz, or Lewis
These things lead me to believe that you are wrong.

furthermore
Trading Rowand for Bradley would give us more money to pursue Holliday. I’m not really sure who else the ‘someone like’ part refers to. There is only one hitter on the free agent market like Holliday. Jason Bay is almost as good, but not really in any way similar.

Absolutely!
but only because MB is very likely to violate some portion of his contract that will allow the Giants to release him without liability, thereby ridding themselves of the mini-albatross of the Scott Rowand contract

no brainer
for the amount of money we pay rowand, if you have the chance to move him for even close to value, you have to do it. and bradley probably will be a little bit easier to deal with when he isn’t in chicago and dealing with sweet lou all the time.
