Theoretically, I should eventually look back on this season as a pleasant surprise, but holy shit can I not even imagine that ever happening right now.

by sprdelfin on Sep 24, 2009 9:58 PM PDT reply actions

I disagree with this.

It wasn’t a pleasant surprise, because all our preseason guesses were based on little information, i.e., zero games have been played. As the games started being played and 2/3 of the season had gone by and we were leading the wild card and realized we had a HISTORIC pitching staff performance and needed relatively little to win even 5 more games than we otherwise would… THAT becomes the only opinions/expectations worth having because they are based on real information (i.e., the games that have actually been played and knowledge of our competitors’ positions).

No, this season should be bitterly remembered for how little it would have taken to make a real push into the postseason, at least to the last weekend of the season.

That pitch was six-hundred feet out of the strikezone. This is the pitch he has struck out on for the entire season. Everyone in the world knew that pitch was coming. I called it, sitting here. I even sighed as I did so. It was certain that this would be the pitch they’d throw Rowand. It’s a farce. It’s a fucking farce. I wouldn’t hire Aaron Rowand to shine my shoes.
