Bowker LF.
Ishikawa 1B.
Whiteside C.
Sanchez P.
With malice towards the Dodgers
I don’t like Schierholtz and I don’t expect BORK to put Fred or Bowker in RF. I wouldn’t complain if Nate was in instead of Winn, but Winn over Nate doesn’t bother me.
We're all basically Pedro Feliz.
He’s better than Nate against righties and he has a history of playing well at Arizona. It’s not necessarily what I would do as manager but I’m not going to complain about that particular decision.
We're all basically Pedro Feliz.
You're right
If we were actually in a close race, you’d be right. But I’d rather see if Nate can do better than what he’s shown, at 25.
Insanity is just a state of mind.
Exactly
It might make sense if they were in the race. But Winn is not (I hope) going to be on the team next year and Schierholtz is. Wouldn’t it make more sense to give the ABs to the young guy and see if he can improve with regular playing time?
That kind of player development mumbo jumbo is just crazy talk.
Utter frustration and futility.
by Johnny Disaster on Sep 23, 2009 5:53 PM PDT up reply actions
Yes it would. But, there’s only 11 games left so how much experience will anyone get? At this point I want to see guys like Bowker and Posey play for entertainment purposes and the little bit of experience they’ll gain. I don’t feel the same way about Nate. I’m not saying playing Winn over Nate is a great move, it just doesn’t bother me at this point.
We're all basically Pedro Feliz.
Bowker is a reasonable alternative for playing time, but there is just no reason to play Winn at this point. I was going to end with ‘Period. End of story.’ but I’m afraid the Mayor might see it.
/looks around nervously
Utter frustration and futility.

The original question centered around what I was going to complain about with the lineup. Given that a) Lewis or Bowker are not going to play RF, and b) Winn is better than Schierholtz, and c) there’s only a few games left in the season, I don’t mind Winn being in there.
We're all basically Pedro Feliz.
Why can't Bowker play RF?
He played some RF last year. I know he’s not a great fielder, but plenty of teams have worse defensive right-fielders than him. Bowker could probably play RF in a wheelchair and still be better than Hawpe.
Right now, Winn’s “history of [blah]” doesn’t mean much to me. His decline this year has made all such stats irrelevant. He just can’t hit much anymore. Being in the 3 spot is wrong (well, and in the line up in general).
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
And I tweet (more often than I blarg).
Against righties this year he’s hit this: .294/.357/.403 for an OPS+ of 96. Schierholtz overall has hit .272/.305/.409 and
.247/.282/.352 against righties.
We're all basically Pedro Feliz.
you dont like schierholtz?

by victor frankenstein on Sep 23, 2009 5:16 PM PDT up reply actions
I liked this from Baggs:
Matt Cain struck out Mark Reynolds in the third inning to tie the single-season major league record, and Reynolds just kept right on going. Madison Bumgarner fanned him in the fourth to break Reynolds’ own year-old record. Then Brandon Medders got him, too.
Valdez had a shot to become the fourth Giants pitcher to strike out Reynolds, but contact was made. Reynolds grounded weakly to third base. Pablo Sandoval threw to second base way too late, but umpire Angel Campos must’ve been taking pity on everyone in the ballpark when he called the runner out. That’s my Angel.
We wondered aloud in the press box whether Reynolds had ever struck out against four different pitchers in the same game. Then we noticed all the Arizona writers were looking at us like we were crazy and nodding their heads.
It's my blarg! Quick Pitch
And I tweet (more often than I blarg).
the milestone also spurred some choice flem and jon dialogue, including jon’s recollection of the following NBA call:
“..goes to the basket and gets hammered. Just like I’m gonna do as soon as this game is done.”
They were having too much fun with the strikeout record last night.

Same.
I’ve been trolling eBay looking for the bass. It sells for damn near the price of the special edition. I figured I’d wait a little bit and see if things cool down and I can get one for a more reasonable price. Otherwise, I’ll go with plan B.

Nice. I think I made it through the first 4 or 5 cities before I lost my voice. I need to pick it up again.
We're all basically Pedro Feliz.
I don’t sing for most of them since it gets tricky trying to maintain my voice and concentrate on playing at the same time. Also there are a few songs that have lyrics with which I’m less familiar, so that screws things up.

We'll take him off your hands, Tampa Bay
B.J. Upton, Rays (.233, 10 HRs in 520 at-bats)
We’ll cut Upton some slack because of injuries. He underwent left shoulder surgery last winter, and he says he never had an opportunity to develop strength in the shoulder. He’s also been bothered by an ankle problem since early September, and the injury has hindered him defensively.
But that’s no excuse for Upton’s bad body language, inconsistent approach to running out ground balls, and seeming indifference at times.
“When he strikes out, it’s like he’s on major league rehab in extended camp,” said an AL scout. “It doesn’t seem to bother him. They’ve got a real issue there. They’re probably not going to be able to trade him and get close to equal value, and that attitude sure isn’t going to help him become a better player.”
Upton complained when manager Joe Maddon dropped him from leadoff to ninth in the order, and recently told Rays beat writer Marc Topkin that he’d like to “flush this season down the toilet.” After hitting 24 homers in 2007, he has 19 combined the past two seasons. His on-base percentage took an enormous dip this season, from .383 to .303.
“He’s not a bad kid at all,” said a front office man who knows Upton. “He’s not lazy, and he really cares. But sometimes he gets embarrassed, and I think that’s when he lopes after a ball or doesn’t run one out. He really makes you scratch your head.”

Well… since that season of (admittedly very good) 50/57 SB/att he’s 12/19, which undoubtedly helps his team to lose, and he’s had wOBA in 2008 of .278 in 2008 and .272 in 2009 on 224 and 238 PAs, respectively. That helps his team to lose even faster. So he’s pretty worthless now.
But he was good in 2006 and 2007. But always douchey. Definitely always douchey.

You know, I don’t remember if it was that one. The Giants/Mets game I recall was on FOX May 16th, and we lost, ruining MY FREAKING BIRTHDAY. I could have strangled Rowand.
I don’t think FOX should count. Those are regional games.
If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding.
That one, I believe was a “national” game. We saw it in here in the South. But I could be wrong about that.
Fox also had Angels at Rangers and Indians at Rays so LA didn’t have that game.
If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding.
I wonder why we didn’t get the Rays game, then. Though I work in broadcasting, the pattern of regional games eludes my every instinct.

Is it a pop - up metal stopper?
You can sometimes unscrew those but it requires some small wrenches. Go with the overflow plate below the spout , and twist the snake as you slowly push it. It has to catch in the mouth of the sanitary tee that feeds the vent – this may require repeated attempts. Good luck!

Is it safe or fair to say at all that Bowker and Nate are the same offensively except Bowker will take a walk?
With malice towards the Dodgers
Right now, yes. If I had to put money on who’s more likely to start hitting better, I’d say Nate. SSS for both, so idk. But Nate has the defense and speed advantage over Bowker.
Insanity is just a state of mind.
Bowker has much better minor league numbers for what its worth

Last year
He’s had one great year, and some pretty good ones. Nate had consistent good seasons. Minor league numbers aren’t always good indicators of Major League talent. I want Bowker to be good, the Giants need someone like him or Nate. But Bowker is really valuable for his bat only. Nate will stick around because of his D and lefty mashing.
And Bowker’s minor league numbers might have higher trade value, if the Giants choose that route.
Insanity is just a state of mind.
I wonder what Buster Posey would have done in that at-bat.

It is descending vertically yet needs to catch on the lip of a horizontal connection – not easily done unless you’re lucky.
