Leadoff
What do you guys think about going after guys like Drew Stubbs, or Ryan Raburn for next year? Both can play anywhere in the OF, and both can hit leadoff, something the Giants really need (besides power). I really like Stubbs and the Reds seem to have a logjam in the OF. Just wondering.

I would think Stubbs would be pretty expensive to acquire (prospect wise.) So young and playing well. Might be able to get a veteran leadoff guy for cheaper
Not sure about Raburn. I was never all that impressed with him, but I don’t watch Detroit all that much so I could be wrong
Plus, Stubb has never been that good in the minors.
He isn’t terribly patient, has little power, and K’s alot. I don’t know what his defense is like, but it would have to elite to make him a worthwhile target.

Stubbs has always been scene as a potential gold glove center fielder.
If things work out I could see Stubbs being an above average overall player, but he’s not what we’re missing (IMO) and I don’t think the Reds will be trading him any time soon.
Unless they’re serious about moving Votto to LF, I think Yonder Alonso might become available.

Niether are exactly what I would like for a lead off guy. The OBP is not quite there enough to make hope the Giatns go after them.
Stubbs I find interesting because his age and if his glove work pans out; But again not enough to way out of the way to get. If Lewis’s K’s bother you it is very possible Stubb’s will as well in 2 seasons or so.
That’s it! Katie bar the door for this 79 win team is star crossed! And I am loving it.
who do you propose leadsoff next year? Lewis?
Matt Cain: throwing complete game shutouts since 06'. No big deal.

Lewis probably wouldn’t suck. Which isn’t to speak toward his ability to be good. I’m just saying that he’s fairly accomplished at not sucking. And his walks and pitches taken would be nice to see out of leadoff.
Context, people. More context is good. Less context is bad. If you're willing to be reductive, then you're willing to be wrong.

Most sane people look at Lewis and think that he wouldn’t be a bad option at leadoff. The Giants looked at Lewis and thought he would be a great #3 hitter.
Proud father of Juan Carlos Perez. Think Albert Pujols at a position to be determined.
@#$% Juan Uribe. Dios es grande.
Is Torres as good as he's looked recently?
I choose to watch the Giants try to score runs. Not because it is easy, but because it is hard.
Only against lefties.

why are you so sad
Also, andres’s OPS is over 800 on the year. he’s worth being considered in a leadoff platoon

But the problem
Is that his year consists of 113 AB’s. His career line is .224/.283/.351. He strikes out a ton, is impatient, and doesn’t have power (yeah I know he hit 5 HR’s this year – his career high is 11, as a 30 y-o in the minors). He really shouldn’t be hitting anywhere in the lineup, let alone leadoff.

Frankly, if Bochy thought he could hit, he wouldn’t call for a bunt in the first inning after a leadoff double.
I can’t think of a rational reason to give up an out in the first inning with a man in scoring position and ZERO OUTS unless you really just don’t think the guy can hit.
In which case Bochy was right. Either that, or he’s just an idiot. Both seem valid here.

So he’s not hitting.339/.383/.750 against lefties this year?

We don’t really need a leadoff hitter. We just need good hitters—-lineups are pretty overrated.
Merkin Valdez? Manuel Mateo? A rose by any other name...
