Happy to have him back, but he’ll probably take Runzler’s spot so I’m sad.

Here’s what Baggs said:
With Dan Runzler and Jeremy Affeldt, I don’t think the Giants will need to put the Big Unit in any hairy situations until they get a few chances to see him in action.
I hope he’s right!

Wow, I’m pretty sure Baggs wrote the words “put the Big Unit in any hairy situations” specifically for us.

For some reason Runzler reminds me of a young Dan Plesac.

This seems like as good a place as any for this

I know you nerds know NOTHING about the real game of baseball, or any other athletic endeavor requiring teamwork under physical stress.

It needs to be said...
with all the gamer-this and gamer-that that gets thrown around, it’s amazing the way Randy Johnson has worked since going down with a torn rotator muscle.
If anyone had a reason to shut it down, it’s this 40-something year-old who achieved his goal of getting to 300 wins for his career. But instead he makes an example of how a professional ballplayer and great teammate goes about his business.
I’ve got nothing but respect for you Randy, and I’m glad you are a member of the Giants.

Some of the other vets (cough, Bengie, cough) could learn a thing or two from him about willing to do whatever’s best for the team, regardless if that means a reduced or uncertain role.
The Big Unit has come out of the bullpen before (TWSS!) in the playoffs. It would be great to see him do it again if the Giants get there.

He warmed up in the bottom of the 8th inning and got a standing o.

I wish I knew how to do this...
Chart Randy’s effectiveness in shutting down offenses in his first/second/third innings of work.
Ya know...ignorance really IS bliss.
Well - I do , anyway.
