Dogers Series Rotation
According to this mornings Chronicle (read in the paper, still looking for a link) Boche intends to keep the rotation in order skipping over the off day tomorrow. The rotation for the weekend series against the Dodgers would be: Sanchez, Penny, Timmy. Seems to me that, with one more off day on the schedule, this would be a good time to skip Sanchez's start and go with a rotation of: Penny, Timmy, Zito. Seems to me this makes more sense for the following reasons:
1. If you use the off day on the 28th in the way Boche is using it now, then you end up with Lincecum not pitching in the final San Diego series. You do end up with Cain, Sanchez, Penny. Not a bad shot at taking the series.
2. Lincecum not pitching the last, or second to last, game of the year (as would be the case now and depending on how the last off day is handled) would mean he would have extra days of rest and be available should a playoff against the Rockies be neccessary.
3. Based on the Post-Season schedule, if we make it with and we make it with out a playoff, you give Timmy extra days of rest (8 I think) leading into the first game.
4.Given Sanchez' last start against the Dodgers (4.1IP, 5H, 5R) it would be wise to skip his start and get a stronger rotation when wins are needed most.
I am really not good at the understanding the best way to setup a rotation down the stretch, but it seems the decision made today isnt a good one. Your thoughts?

We’ve had a few discussions about this here over the past month. I felt in August that we should pitch Lincecum every fifth day in September, but since then two things have happened: 1) Joe Martinez was replaced with a red hot Brad Penny and 2) Lincecum had his velocity dip and then missed a start with a back injury. We have ten games without an off day starting Friday, so we’ll need to see every pitcher twice either way. Pitch Lincecum on the 20th and the 25th, and if a one-game playoff still seems like a strong possibility by then, move him up to the 30th so he’ll be fully rested for the 5th.
I’m a little nervous about Sanchez on Friday as well, but he was pitching well before Saturday and hopefully he’ll bounce back.

Boche
Used as a disparaging term for a German, especially a German soldier in World War I or World War II.

If this is true, I’d like them to use Sanchez on Sunday and give Zito an extra day. Without looking into it, he seems to pitch better with an extra day. I have no facts to back this up but who needs nerd things like stats and data to support ones beliefs?

I’d prefer to use the pitcher than gives them the best chance to win. Dodgers have lit up Sanchez for 13 earned runs in his last 3 starts against them (only 14.1 innings combined)

Zito’s given up 10 ER over 17.1 innings versus the Dodgers this year, Sanchez is at 13 ER over 19.1 IP. It appears neither have a much better chance then the other, so I’d go ahead and give Zito the extra rest.

Guess we will have to disagree. Don’t see how you would rather have Sanchez’ three bad starts against them instead of Zito’s one bad start? And that one was in mid-April. They have lit up Dirty twice in the last five weeks
